General Summary
This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming environment at Hyland Hills recreation facilities. The position performs daily custodial duties, supports minor facility maintenance and equipment preventative maintenance and supervises, schedules, and supports the part-time custodial team. The anticipated schedule is expected to be Sat-Weds from 4am – 12pm but is subject to change depending on business needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Custodial Support
Maintains the cleanliness and overall presentation of indoor recreation facilities, including but not limited to vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning windows and walls, emptying trash, cleaning kitchen, office, break and common areas.Cleans, disinfects, and maintains restrooms, locker rooms, showers, saunas, fitness areas, gymnasiums, group fitness rooms, multipurpose rooms, lobby areas, and other assigned facility spaces.Keeps equipment, furnishings and high touch surfaces clean and sanitary, including gymnastics mats, fitness equipment, tables, chairs, counters, door handles, railings, benches, lockers, and other facility furnishings.Develops, maintains, and follows, daily, weekly, monthly, and annual cleaning schedules to ensure facility cleanliness is consistent, efficient, and aligned with facility usage.Supervises, schedules, trains, and provides direction to part-time custodial staff.Monitors the quality and completion of custodial work performed by part-time custodial staff and provides coaching, follow up, and task clarification as needed.Orders, tracks, organizes, and maintains appropriate inventory levels of custodial supplies, paper produces, chemicals, cleaning tools, and related equipment.Recommends the purchase of new cleaning products, tools, supplies, or equipment to improve cleanliness, efficiency, safety, and the overall appearance of the facilities.Replenish supplies in restrooms, locker rooms, kitchens, break areas, fitness spaces and other assigned facility areas.Supports facility deep cleaning projects, including maintenance week projects, seasonal cleaning, high dusting, floor care, restroom detailing, locker room cleaning, and equipment cleaning.Facility Maintenance
Works in cooperation with the Recreation Supervisor and Facilities Maintenance department to keep facilities, fixtures, furnishings, and equipment in good repair.Performs routine preventative maintenance on fitness equipment, including basic cleaning, inspection, tightening, lubrication, reporting unusual noises or wear, and documenting equipment concerns.Evaluates and monitors the condition of fitness equipment at all assigned locations and schedules in-house work orders or vendor service calls as needed.Removes or reduces possible hazards for guests and staff by applying ice melt to icy areas, wiping up spills, placing appropriate signage, removing trip hazards, and alerting the supervisor when hazards require additional support.Maintains preventative maintenance logs, and related equipment documentation as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Knowledge of custodial practices, cleaning methods, chemical safety, sanitation, and basic facility maintenance.Ability to work with a team and supervise part-time team members.Ability to operate custodial and maintenance equipment safely.Ability to supervise, train, and schedule part-time custodial staff.Ability to maintain and follow cleaning schedules.Ability to identify and address maintenance needs, hazards, and equipment issues.Ability to work independently and use sound judgment.Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.Ability to provide strong customer service and communicate professionally.Ability to build positive working relationships with staff, vendors, and the public.Working Environment/Physical Activities
Regularly performs physical activities including standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing ladders, and moving throughout recreation facilities. Must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.Works in a variety of indoor recreation facility environments and may be exposed to cleaning agents, disinfectants, dust, odors, moisture, noise, and other custodial or maintenance-related conditions. Must be able to safely handle cleaning chemicals and utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with District policies and safety procedures.Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks, and respond to changing operational needs while maintaining attention to detail and quality standards.Education/Experience
