Position Overview
THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION (9 MONTHS OR LESS) - PAYING $18.00-$19.00 Hourly Per Hour. EMPLOYMENT STARTS 04/06/2026 THROUGH 10/31/2026.

Lead Inspector
- Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at McPhee Reservoir near Dolores, Colorado.
- Work independently or in pairs to inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, with respect to invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels.
- Provide public outreach on the aquatic invasive species topic by distributing printed material to visitors.
- Work early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
- Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities as above.
- Serve as ramp lead: provide on‑job training to inspection staff, create schedules, ensure shift coverage and accurate time‑keeping, resolve staff and customer challenges, and recommend hiring/firing decisions to the area work lead.
- Ensure inspection station staff follow standardized protocols, accurate data entry, maintain inventory of supplies, and perform basic maintenance & troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination units.
- Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species.
- Work early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
- Reliable transportation and ability to work weekends, holidays, early morning and late evenings.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Reliable and timely.
- Ability to self‑motivate and work independently.
- Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment.
- Excellent customer service skills or experience working with the public.
- Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or comparable work experience.
- Any worker expected to drive a State‑owned vehicle must maintain a safe driving record and carry a valid driver's license.
- Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for workers who have an assigned State fleet vehicle, are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, or use a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.
