The City of Westminster is seeking a responsible, community-minded individual to serve as the Durbin House Caretaker. This unique independent contractor opportunity provides on-site housing in exchange for helping maintain the safety, appearance, and operational readiness of one of the area's most treasured public spaces.
This is an Independent Contractor position and is not considered employment with the City.
No monetary compensation is provided. In exchange for services performed under an Independent Contractor Agreement, the Caretaker will receive housing accommodations at the historic Durbin House. The housing arrangement is provided in lieu of monetary compensation and is subject to the terms and conditions of the Independent Contractor Agreement.
About the RoleThe Durbin House Caretaker serves as the on-site representative for Wakefield Valley Park, helping ensure the park, facilities, and rental spaces remain clean, secure, and ready for visitors and events. The Caretaker acts as the park's primary observer, reporting concerns and supporting daily operations while helping create a positive experience for park guests.
Responsibilities Park Security & Site Oversight- Monitor park grounds and facilities for safety and security concerns.
- Conduct routine visual inspections of park amenities and facilities.
- Report maintenance issues, suspicious activity, policy violations, and safety concerns.
- Open, close, and secure designated facilities and restrooms.
- Assist with access to park rental spaces and facilities.
- Prepare event spaces for scheduled rentals.
- Welcome renters and help ensure facilities are ready for use.
- Report any damage or concerns following events.
- Coordinate with volunteers and staff regarding facility access.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures.
- Support tours and special events as requested.
- Help maintain a clean and welcoming environment for visitors.
- Perform routine litter and trash removal.
- Empty trash receptacles as needed.
- Clear walkways and public areas of leaves and debris.
- Perform light landscaping and groundskeeping tasks.
- Monitor park amenities and report repair needs.
- Maintain public restrooms to clean and sanitary standards.
- Restock supplies and report maintenance concerns.
- Keep the Durbin House living quarters clean, organized, and in good condition.
- Promptly report structural, mechanical, or safety issues.
- Dependable and self-motivated.
- Comfortable working independently.
- Organized and attentive to detail.
- Friendly and professional when interacting with visitors, renters, volunteers, and staff.
- Able to perform light physical work and routine maintenance tasks.
