East Weymouth, MA | Full-Time | Hybrid Leadership Role

Heartline Staffing is recruiting an HVAC Service Manager for a full-time leadership opportunity in East Weymouth, Massachusetts. This is a department-management position responsible for commercial HVAC service operations, technician leadership, client relationships, service delivery, and departmental financial performance.

IMPORTANT: This is a leadership role, not a field-service technician position. The HVAC Service Manager is not assigned service calls and is not dispatched to routine service work.

WORK ARRANGEMENT
  • Three days in the office
  • One day in the field for ride-alongs, site walks, customer visits, and quality audits
  • One day working from home
  • Leadership on-call rotation approximately one week out of every five
COMPENSATION
  • $140,000–$160,000 annual base salary range
  • Quarterly performance bonus tied to service department results
  • Annual bonus tied to company profitability
  • Growth bonus tied to service department expansion
POSITION OVERVIEW
  • Lead the commercial HVAC service technician group and overall service-delivery function.
  • Direct technician scheduling, dispatch priorities, emergency service response, and workflow management.
  • Manage departmental financial performance, including budget, labor utilization, gross margin, job costing, pricing, invoicing, and service KPIs.
  • Serve as the senior technical resource for technicians and customers on complex commercial HVAC systems.
  • Lead hiring, coaching, performance management, training, certification progression, and apprentice development.
  • Maintain strong commercial client relationships and resolve escalated customer concerns.
  • Ensure service operations meet company safety, quality, responsiveness, and profitability standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and develop commercial HVAC technicians and apprentices.
  • Direct technician assignments based on capability, service priority, and customer needs.
  • Coordinate technician scheduling, emergency repairs, equipment readiness, fleet condition, truck stock, and vendor needs.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and support ongoing training and career development.
  • Lead technician and apprentice hiring, including screening, interviewing, and final selection.
  • Manage the apprentice development track and support license and certification progression.
  • Review and approve estimates, proposals, and service agreements above established thresholds.
  • Participate in customer meetings, walkthroughs, and contract discussions.
  • Identify at-risk client accounts and lead corrective action.
  • Manage department budget, labor utilization, gross margin, job costing, pricing accuracy, invoicing, and billing workflows.
  • Monitor parts spend, truck stock, overtime, and subcontractor usage.
  • Generate and analyze service KPIs and operational reports.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, Massachusetts regulatory requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting direction for complex commercial HVAC systems.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for repeat failures and oversee callback resolution.
  • Review major system startups and commissioning for quality and completeness.
TECHNICAL SCOPE

The service team works across commercial HVAC equipment including:

  • Packaged rooftop units
  • Split and ductless systems
  • VRF and VRV systems
  • Air-cooled and water-cooled chillers
  • Cooling towers
  • Boilers and hydronic systems
  • Pumps and heat exchangers
  • Air-handling units
  • Makeup air and ventilation systems
  • Electrical troubleshooting and control circuits
  • VFD applications
  • Gas-fired equipment and combustion analysis
  • Light commercial refrigeration
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED REQUIRED
  • EPA Section 608 certification REQUIRED
  • 8 or more years of commercial HVAC service experience REQUIRED
  • Minimum 4 years of management experience directly responsible for a technician group REQUIRED
  • Demonstrated ownership of a department or branch P&L REQUIRED
  • Strong commercial HVAC diagnostics and troubleshooting background REQUIRED
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record REQUIRED
  • Experience with dispatching, CRM, and field-service platforms REQUIRED
Preferred
  • Associate degree, HVACR trade-school completion, or business coursework
  • Massachusetts Refrigeration Technician license
  • Massachusetts gas-fitting license
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • NATE certification
  • Manufacturer-specific training
  • Build Ops experience
  • Jonas experience
  • Experience integrating technicians following an acquisition or merger
