Custodian

The Custodian position is responsible for keeping assigned facilities clean, safe, and well‑maintained for district staff and patrons. Duties include cleaning and minor maintenance/repair of buildings and equipment using proper methods, materials, tools, and equipment.

• Open and secure facilities, including gates, buildings, and security systems; clean and maintain assigned facilities and grounds following custodial best practices.
• Monitor and maintain mechanical and structural components; follow preventative maintenance standards and manufacturer recommendations.
• Inventory, order, and replace consumables such as light bulbs, air/water filters, batteries, sensors, and locks.
• Perform minor carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC tasks, including clearing clogs, resetting breakers, and repairing or installing building fixtures.
• Act as a point of contact for custodial and other vendors, provide guidance on scope of work, and conduct quality‑control inspections of vendor services.
• Maintain a safe working environment by performing monthly safety inspections and reporting unsafe conditions.
• Apply waste‑reducing techniques, green cleaning methods, and energy‑saving measures; promote recycling and proper disposal of hazardous materials.
• Perform snow and ice removal at assigned sites.
• Maintain a supportive and customer‑focused working environment.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Age 18 or older at time of hire.
• High School Diploma or GED; less than one year of experience, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
• Valid Driver’s License in good standing and ability to tow trailers.
• CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification maintained or obtained within six months.
• Pass a medical evaluation and fit test under OSHA regulations.
• OSHA 10‑hour and OSHA 1910 training within six months.
• Well‑versed in cleaning and maintenance methods, materials, and equipment.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards, SDS, HAZMAT, and PPE.
• Proficiency in operating scrubbers, power washers, carpet cleaning units, window washing, snow removal equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Computer skills, including work‑order systems and Outlook.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong organizational skills for accurate record keeping.

• Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. (with callouts, holdovers, and early starts possible).
• Shift starts may include weekend and holiday coverage for special events.
• Starting pay: $19.92 – $22.00 per hour.
