LabVIEW Test Engineer
Job DescriptionThe LabVIEW Test Engineer develops and supports end-of-line test equipment and software to enable both existing production and new product introductions. The engineer works within a cross‑functional engineering team to design, implement, and optimize electro‑mechanical test systems, ensuring reliable evaluation of new products and high uptime in manufacturing assembly cells. Analytical and software problem‑solving skills are applied to troubleshoot complex test systems, improve test processes, and generate clear design documentation for new product launches.
Responsibilities- Develop innovative end‑of‑line test equipment solutions to support existing products and new product introductions.
- Design, implement, and maintain LabVIEW‑based test applications for evaluation and verification of new products.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional engineering teams to coordinate and support the release of new products into production.
- Troubleshoot electro‑mechanical test systems and equipment using analytical and software problem‑solving skills to identify and resolve issues.
- Optimize test systems by improving test strategies, workflows, and automation.
- Support manufacturing operations by maximizing uptime in assembly cells through enhancements to existing test equipment and processes.
- Recommend and implement improvements to manufacturing test equipment to increase reliability, throughput, and ease of use.
- Specify and/or create detailed design documentation, including test specifications, schematics, and software documentation, for new product introductions.
- Use electrical test equipment such as digital multimeters (DMMs) and oscilloscopes to perform electrical troubleshooting and validation.
- Build and troubleshoot wire harnesses and related hardware used in test setups and fixtures.
- Work with SQL Server databases to manage, store, and analyze test data for reporting and continuous improvement.
- Utilize tools such as oscilloscopes and CAN analysis equipment (e.g., CANalyzer) to debug and validate electronic systems in automotive and related applications.
Skills & Qualifications
- At least 5 years of experience in test engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong LabVIEW experience for developing and maintaining automated test systems.
- Hands‑on electrical troubleshooting and testing experience with electro‑mechanical systems.
- Proficiency using digital multimeters (DMMs) and oscilloscopes for diagnostic and validation tasks.
- Experience building and troubleshooting wiring harnesses and related test hardware.
- Practical experience with SQL Server databases for test data storage, retrieval, and analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is preferred; other engineering or related disciplines are acceptable.
- Experience working with hardware in an automotive or similar vehicle‑related environment.
- Ability to use CAN analysis tools such as CANalyzer for communication and system debugging.
- Strong analytical and software problem‑solving skills for diagnosing issues in complex test systems.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with C++ or similar programming languages for supporting or extending test applications.
- Familiarity with data analysis techniques to interpret test results and drive design or process improvements.
- Exposure to automotive systems, including on‑ and off‑highway vehicles, trucks, buses, construction, agricultural, and specialty vehicles.
- Understanding of electronic control systems and drivetrain components, including by‑wire and mechanical transmission shifters.
- Experience working with hybrid or electric vehicle control systems and related electronic subsystems.
- Ability to create clear, well‑structured technical documentation for test systems and new product introductions.
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively within cross‑functional engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Adaptability to support both short‑term contract needs and potential longer‑term or full‑time opportunities.
This is a Contract position based out of Wheeling, IL.
Pay & BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 – $60.00/hr.
