Harbor House of Wheeling is seeking a Health and Wellness Director RN to join their team! The Health & Wellness Director RN is responsible for the overall clinical oversight and delivery of resident care within the memory care units. This role ensures residents receive high-quality, person-centered care tailored to individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The Director oversees nursing services, medication management, regulatory compliance, and staff performance while promoting a safe, therapeutic, and supportive environment.
This position is responsible for the planning, organization, direction, supervision, and evaluation of nursing services within the facility.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors residents for changes in cognitive, physical, and behavioral health and ensures appropriate follow-up.
- Provides leadership and oversight of nursing staff, including scheduling, assignments, performance evaluations, and policy enforcement.
- Participate in recruitment, interviewing, hiring recommendations, and onboarding of nursing staff.
- Oversees staff training, clinical orientation, scheduling, payroll/timecard review, and employee relations matters.
- Collaborate with Medical Providers and the Executive Director regarding admissions, discharges, and resident care planning.
- Ensures physician services and clinical visits occur as required.
- Ensures appropriate equipment, supplies, and staffing levels to meet resident care needs.
- Manages departmental budget and provides input on staffing and equipment planning.
- Conducts daily rounds to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Supports staff development initiatives to enhance quality of care.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of care planning processes.
- Maintains oversight of nursing licensure compliance.
- Ensure concerns and complaints related to nursing care are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Responsible for 24/7 on-call coverage for nursing-related emergencies. When unavailable, a qualified RN must be designated with prior approval from the Executive Director.
- Provides oversight, monitoring, and evaluation of key clinical programs, including but not limited to:
- Infection control
- Incident/accident investigations and follow-up
- Medication management and controlled substances
- Risk management and medical records
- Skin care, pain management, and nutritional programs
- Psychotropic medication monitoring
- Staffing and in-service education programs
- Coordination with pharmacy, lab, dietary, and specialty services
- Employee and resident health programs
- All other duties, as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proven strong management skills, including delegating responsibility to subordinates, performance management, conflict management, and leading through others.
- Must have good financial and management skills.
- Must be able to adapt to a flexible work schedule.
- Be able to effectively communicate with a diverse range of audiences and settings: properly handle emotional situations, manage resources to accomplish resident care objectives, assess operational, staffing, and fiscal needs, analyze complex written documents, and work long and irregular hours.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
- Current RN license with the state required.
- Prefer previous Health and Wellness Director experience of at least three years.
- Strong knowledge of dementia care practices and behavioral management.
- Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices is required.
- Travel up to 10%.
- Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards. Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
