Position: Advanced Practice Provider- Gastroenterology: Inpatient/Outpatient (Wheeling, WV)
Position Summary
WVUHS Medical Group seeks a GI Advanced Practice Provider (APP). The successful candidate will practice inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology in Wheeling, WV.
The APP has coordination and clinical skills required for the comprehensive management of gastroenterology patients, including biological, social, and psychological assessments. The APP coordinates involvement of medical specialty teams necessary to develop a comprehensive care plan, reviews the plan with other members, participates in directing care, performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, and coordinates disposition decisions, discharge planning, and follow‑up. The APP participates in the education of residents, medical and nursing students.
This is a 5‑day‑a‑week position.
Minimum Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner
Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in NursingNational Certification by a recognized APRN Certification CenterLicensure or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West VirginiaAmerican Heart Association BLS Certification required, with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the departmentExperience
Internal Medicine, gastroenterology, or related experience preferredEligible new graduates will be consideredPreferred Qualifications
ACNP or FNP certification preferredMinimum Qualifications for Physician Assistant
Bachelor’s Degree as Physician Assistant or Master’s Degree as Physician Assistant requiredGraduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant (PA) training program requiredCertification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants requiredMust be licensed or eligible for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic MedicineAmerican Heart Association BLS Certification required, with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the departmentExperience
Internal Medicine, gastroenterology, or hepatology experience preferredEligible new graduates will be consideredPreferred Qualifications
Master’s level degree as Physician Assistant preferredCore Duties and Responsibilities
Manages comprehensive and individualized care for gastroenterology/hepatology patients and their families immediately post‑discharge and in the ambulatory settingCompletes consults and/or pre‑procedure evaluationsCompletes integrated assessments regarding management and comprehensive medication reviews for disposition of gastroenterology/hepatology patientsWith the collaboration of gastroenterology/hepatology faculty or by following established clinical guidelines and protocols, orders additional tests or consults as deemed appropriatePerforms and communicates results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines and scope of practiceConsults and communicates with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings in patient evaluationsPerforms succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations and documents findings in the medical recordFacilitates patient disposition by coordinating appropriate services and tests for follow‑up appointments in the clinic (as applicable) or location of necessary care arrangementsDevelops a comprehensive individualized plan of care for gastroenterology/hepatology patients, including teaching, disposition planning, and referral to other members of the health care team as necessaryDemonstrates expertise in caring for patients across the age continuumIdentifies unstable or complex gastroenterology/hepatology patient care situations and facilitates intervention if appropriate in the clinic settingRecognizes emergency situations and initiates effective emergency careEvaluates gastroenterology/hepatology patients and serves as a coordinator for follow‑up in the ambulatory setting or longitudinal care facility (as applicable)Assists in the collection of outcome measures (as applicable)Demonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making by identifying, evaluating, and managing the individual gastroenterology/hepatology needs of patients/familiesDemonstrates the ability to utilize equipment…
