We are seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to support precision metals manufacturing operations at our medical device production facility in Wheeling, IL. This is a hands‑on engineering role with significant shop‑floor involvement, supporting CNC machining processes, new product introductions, process improvements, and manufacturing readiness activities.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Manufacturing Engineer who thrives in a production environment, has strong exposure to CNC machining operations, and enjoys driving improvements in quality, productivity, and efficiency. Experience with precision machining, Swiss CNC environments, and tight‑tolerance manufacturing is highly desirable.

You will join a collaborative engineering team focused on operational excellence, continuous improvement, and the successful launch of new products across a manufacturing environment producing highly complex components in stainless steel, titanium, and aluminum.

Key Responsibilities Manufacturing Engineering & Production Support
  • Provide hands‑on engineering support to manufacturing and machine shop operations.
  • Partner with production teams to improve manufacturing processes, reduce downtime, and enhance throughput.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing challenges and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Support equipment installation, qualification, and process validation activities.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, work instructions, SOPs, and process specifications.
New Product Introduction (NPI)
  • Lead and support new product introduction activities from development through production launch.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Production teams to ensure manufacturing readiness.
  • Participate in process development, validation, and scale‑up activities.
  • Support manufacturability reviews and process optimization for new products.
  • Lead initiatives focused on yield improvement, scrap reduction, cycle time reduction, and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other continuous improvement methodologies where appropriate.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators to measure operational performance.
Manufacturing & CNC Operations
  • Support CNC machining operations within a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Partner closely with machinists, programmers, and manufacturing personnel to optimize machining processes.
  • Utilize GD&T and engineering drawings to support manufacturing, troubleshooting, and process improvements.
  • Experience with Swiss CNC machining environments is strongly preferred.
Cross‑Functional Leadership
  • Work closely with Quality, Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams.
  • Lead and participate in cross‑functional improvement projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to production personnel as needed.
  • Effectively communicate project progress and technical recommendations across all levels of the organization.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or precision manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting metal manufacturing operations and machining processes.
  • Experience working in a production or machine shop environment.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience leading manufacturing improvement initiatives and cross‑functional projects.
  • Experience supporting NPI, process validation, or product launch activities.
  • Strong problem‑solving, communication, and project leadership skills.
Preferred
  • Experience in precision machining environments.
  • Experience with Swiss CNC machining (Citizen, Tsugami, Star, Tornos, or similar platforms).
  • Familiarity with Fanuc‑controlled equipment.
  • Experience manufacturing stainless steel, titanium, and aluminum components.
  • Medical device, aerospace, or other highly regulated manufacturing experience.
