Additional Job Description

This position is offered by the West Virginia University Health System, the state’s largest health system, and requires a highly qualified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing
National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers
Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia
Basic Life Support Certification (additional Advanced Life Support or Advanced Cardiac Life Support training may be required)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in acute care, surgical, critical care, or trauma settings

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x‑ray and POC lab tests.

Examines patients to obtain information about their physical condition.

Instructs and counsels patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.

Interprets diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.

Makes diagnosis and decisions about management and treatment of patients.

Obtains, compiles and records patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination utilizing the Meditech EMR.

Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care and infection management.

Prescribes therapy or medication electronically when available.

Educates, instructs and coordinates activities with the medical assistant(s) as needed during the care and treatment of patients.

Provides emergency support following established policies and procedures.

Communicates with staff, medical staff and administration in support of operations.

Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment.

Cognizant of environmental factors, infection control issues, and maintains a safe environment.

Skills and Abilities

Demonstrates competency as appropriate in-patient care assessment for each patient population area served:
Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric.
