The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The technician may perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, continually learning advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques while complying with all company policies and achieving high performance metrics.
DUTIES- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling, air conditioning, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory and periodic reconciliation on the company‑issued service truck.
- Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks and prioritize activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload pictures, parts used, and findings on repair orders using the company‑issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently, managing own daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals on repair estimates, purchase order numbers, and repair order findings.
- Perform work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Maintain company‑issued service truck with daily safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field (or a higher level degree/certification beyond HS/GED and 5 years of experience).
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Complete DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or substitute a DOT medical card with more than four months validity). A DOT physical is required if the card has four months or less remaining.
