Summer Wax Crew Substitutes — 2 Positions
Immediate Supervisor: Director of Facilities / Assistant Superintendent
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt
Employment Term: June 15, 2026 – July 31, 2026 (as needed). Positions based on need.
Salary: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8a, in accordance with Upshur County Salary Scale, Pay Grade C commensurate with experience and education level.
Job SummaryThe wax crew member is responsible for properly stripping and waxing building floors, moving furniture as necessary, and executing obligatory safety provisions.
Performance Responsibilities- Assist in moving furniture.
- Prepare surfaces for waxing.
- Perform skilled waxing tasks, including removing/stripping existing wax and applying surface materials.
- Perform basic duties assigned by the Director of Facilities and/or the Summer Wax Crew Supervisor.
- Clean and maintain equipment, tools, supplies, and work areas.
- Follow all safety rules and regulations.
- Cooperate among other crew members and the leader.
- Assume responsibility for the security of the building—ensure all doors, windows, locks, and lights are turned off as needed before leaving the building for the night.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment and inform the wax crew leader of needs in advance to avoid hindering ongoing custodial duties.
- Comply with county policies.
- Additional duties may be assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent (per WV Code §18A-2-5). Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c. Meet the definition of “Qualifications” in WV Code §18A-4-8b for custodian. Demonstrated custodian competency, as required by WV Code §18A-4-8e (state‑approved competency test). Positions will be hired per WV Code 18A-4-8b schedule within the custodial classification.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see, and climb a ladder a minimum of six feet, using repetitive motions. The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds of materials.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. Temperature in the work environment may vary by location. The work surface can be slippery when mopping. Noise level is moderate to loud (60‑90 dB).
