Terms:

Standard 215‑Day Contract. Monday - Friday 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm. Pay Grade

C. Salary based on experience and education level per NCBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.

Evaluation: Evaluated annually by the building principal/immediate supervisor in accordance with WV State Code §18A‑2‑12, WV State Board Policy 5314, and NCBOE Policy 4220

FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt

• High School Diploma or General Equivalent Development Certificate (GED) per West Virginia Code §18A‑2‑5
• Personnel must be or have been classified in this category, or must pass the state prescribed exam for this position per West Virginia Code §18A‑4‑8e
• Criminal background check per WV Code §18‑5‑15c
• Ability to perform the job duties and responsibilities of the position as contained in the Job Description

Custodian III (means a person employed to keep buildings clean and free of refuse, to operate the heating or cooling systems, and to make minor repairs)

Perform duties which keep the county buildings in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions of the educational program. The custodian performs assigned custodial duties and repairs and receives supervision from the building administrator. Remain free of any alcohol or non‑prescribed drugs while in the workplace. Staff members serve as role models for students, instill ethical principles and democratic values.

• Perform custodian work involving independent activity to keep school clean, sanitary, and in an orderly condition, as well as minor maintenance tasks
• Perform assigned manual work of ordinary difficulty; job assignments are in the form of written or oral instructions and are performed under supervision and reviewed periodically
• Clean and wash floors, walls, ceilings; dust and polish furniture, wash windows; strip, spray, buff, wax, and polish floors; wash and clean rest rooms; dispose of garbage and trash
• Set‑up and shift furniture and furnishings as assigned
• Aid students, teachers, public, and other employees as assigned
• Transport teaching supplies and equipment as required by teaching staff and principal
• Maintain watch over property and grounds against trespassing, vandalism, and fire hazards; signal police and fire departments when needed
• Maintain all floors in a clean and attractive condition, including regular waxing, and a good state of preservation
• Perform supportive duties such as displaying the flag and flying the flag at half‑staff
• Inventory supplies and report safety hazards within building
• Store equipment and service carpeted areas
• Assist in building maintenance by replacing window glass, cleaning gutters and drainpipes, freeing stopped sanitary and sink plumbing, repairing leaks, repairing furniture, doing simple painting, replacing lights, and performing other related work as assigned
• Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair
• Maintain grounds by cutting grass with hand and power mowers and string trimmers, collecting litter, trimming bushes and small trees, raking grounds, and performing minor repairs to walks, paths, walls, play apparatus, roads, and site improvements
• Perform snow and ice removal duties, treat sidewalks and parking lots as assigned
• Operate heating, lighting, ventilation, cooling, and electrical systems as assigned
