Job Summary

To be successful as a lube technician, you should have strong mechanical skills and adhere to all safety procedures and practices. Ultimately, an outstanding lube technician should be able to communicate effectively with bus operators and mechanics and demonstrate excellent time management skills.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Applying lubricants to the moving parts of county vehicle engines to prevent premature engine wear and ensure optimal engine performance.
  • Inspect and lubricate wheel bearings as necessary.
  • Inspect and lubricate all grease points.
  • Perform engine cleanings to prevent rust formation.
  • Replace cabin, fuel, air, DPF, transmission, and oil filters as required.
  • Inspect, replace and rotate tires as necessary.
  • Test tire pressure and add air as needed.
  • Thoroughly inspect fleet vehicles for defects.
  • Make recommendations for additional servicing based on initial vehicle inspections.
  • Notify the mechanic when vehicle maintenance or servicing cannot be completed within scheduled time frames.
  • Prepare detailed vehicle service reports.
  • Replace vehicle wiper blades and batteries as needed.
  • Change motor oil as well as transmission and brake fluid as needed.
  • Keep vehicle interiors clean while performing maintenance and servicing tasks.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Mechanic and/or Director of Transportation.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Mechanical experience.
  • Valid Driver License – must obtain a CDL Class B with P and S Endorsement within six months of hire.
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • A detailed knowledge and understanding of Lubrication Best Practices is a plus.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the safe usage of tools.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, write, talk, hear, see, use technology such as computers and multimedia equipment and use repetitive motions. The employee may frequently lift and/or move at least 100 pounds of materials.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most commonly, the setting is indoors with outdoor settings as required. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 dB). Steel-toed shoes/boots are required.
