- High School Diploma, General Equivalent Development Certificate (GED) per West Virginia Code §18A‑2‑5
- Personnel must be or have been classified in this category or must pass the state prescribed exam for this position per West Virginia Code §18A‑4‑8e.
- Criminal background check per WV Code §18‑5‑15c.
- The ability to perform the job duties and responsibilities of the position as contained in the Job Description.
Currently enrolled Braxton County High School Students are eligible to apply, however preference will be given to current Braxton County regular and substitute staff. Students who may be hired do not earn seniority for the purposes of future employment or experience pay.

Job SummaryTo perform duties that keep county buildings in a state of operating excellence, ensuring no problems or interruptions of the educational program. The custodian performs assigned duties and repairs under the supervision of the building administrator.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non‑prescribed drugs while in the workplace. Alcohol and controlled substances that affect employee productivity, safety or judgment in the workplace will not be tolerated.
Staff members serve as role models for students in conduct and are expected to refrain from bullying, harassment, intimidation, and discrimination.

- Dust, clean, polish fixtures, woodwork, and equipment.
- Paint walls, doors, window facings, and door frames.
- Wash windows and dust blinds.
- Clean restrooms and replenish supplies.
- Sweep, mop, wax, and polish floors, stairs, corridors, and courts using brooms, mops, and buffer.
- Clean rugs and carpets with a vacuum cleaner.
- Dispose of trash and waste materials.
- Clean doors, door facings, and walls with disinfectant.
- Move equipment and supplies.
- Check and replace light bulbs.
- Sweep sidewalks around buildings.
- Report safety hazards within and around buildings.
- List and report repairs needed.
- Store equipment.
- Keep stock of inventory and request supplies as needed.
- Perform minor repairs and maintain equipment.
- Clean shower rooms and gym.
- Operate and maintain weed eater, lawn mower, floor scrubber, floor buffer, and vacuum cleaner.
- Arrange table and chairs for breakfast and lunch.
- Secure the building at night.
- Operate hand and small power tools.
- Prepare facilities for activities and clean up after the activities.
- Shampoo carpets.
- Perform inspections for fire extinguishers and emergency lighting.
- Clean ceiling and restroom vents.
- Perform routine lubrication services and minor preventative maintenance services.
- Operate security systems and fire safety systems.
- Inspect buildings and report deficiencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain all floors in a clean and attractive condition, including regular waxing.
- Assist in building maintenance such as replacing window glass, cleaning gutters, repairing leaks, repairing furniture, painting, replacing lights.
- Conduct ongoing general maintenance, upkeep, and repair of grounds, including mowing grass, trimming bushes, raking grounds, maintaining paths, walls, and play apparatus.
- Snow and ice removal duties on sidewalks and parking lots as assigned.
- Operate heating, lighting, ventilation, cooling, and electrical systems as assigned.
- Inspect buildings for deficiencies and report them.
