Maintenance Worker, Building Maintenance, Facility Maintenance

Job Description Summary

Provide maintenance, repair, and cleanup to buildings, grounds, and equipment. Maintain grounds including parking lots. Open and secure buildings. Occasional travel to other campuses.

• Maintenance (50%)
  • Electrical – changing bulbs, ballasts, switches and receptacles.
  • Plumbing – unclog drains, urinals and toilets using a plunger or sewer snake.
  • Carpentry – building walls, hanging and finishing drywall, floor tile repair.
  • Painting.
• Preventative maintenance
  • Cleaning roof drains.
  • Changing filters and belts on air handlers.
  • Cleaning coils on RTU’s and condensing units.
• Equipment maintenance
  • Tractor, lawn mower, weed eater, air compressor and power washer.
  • Hand tools – saws and drills.
• Campus services (20%)
  • Assist faculty, staff and administration with office moves as needed.
  • Set up and tear down for events.
  • Mail runs and bank runs.
  • Open buildings and classrooms.
• Grounds keeping (15%)
  • Shovel snow, scrape ice and spread salt as needed.
  • Cut, trim and plant grass.
  • Vacuum and mulch leaves.
  • Spray weeds using herbicides.
  • Seal and stripe parking lots.
  • Monitor grounds for trash and cigarette butts; pick up and dispose of them.
• Custodial (10%)
  • Sweep and mop floors as needed to clean up spills, dirt, and water from rain or snow days.
  • Clean up after events as needed.
  • Clean restrooms as needed.
  • Fill soap, paper towel and toilet paper dispensers as needed.
• Other duties as assigned (5%).

• Education:
  
  High school diploma or GED.
• Work experience:
  
  Minimum 1 year in building maintenance and a minimum 6 months experience in lawn care.
• Skills:
  
  Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning.
• Knowledge of hand tools and lawn equipment.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. with assistance (able to lift 100 lbs. or more with assistance).
• Ability to prioritize and address any problematic issues that may arise regarding buildings, equipment, and people.
• Valid driver’s license.
