Overview

Performs varied duties that relate to the appearance, repair and general care of school grounds. Additional seasonal assignments include operation of lawn care equipment and snow and ice removal vehicles/equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Will adhere to WVBE Policy 5902 – Employee Code of Conduct and applicable WVSDB personnel policies for employee performance.
  • Observes safety precautions in carrying out assigned duties.
  • Carrying communication devices with established notification procedures, as requested.
  • Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and routine repairs to campus buildings and equipment.
  • Uses and maintains electronic maintenance work order system, employee timekeeping and leave request system, etc.
  • Creates or maintains simple records and makes reports based on these records.
  • Maintains grounds in a safe and attractive manner by working with lawn care and landscaping equipment as assigned, including snow and ice removal from parking lots, campus drive and/or sidewalks as assigned.
  • Conducts inventory of materials, supplies and equipment as requested.
  • Performs grounds and facilities maintenance, work individually or as a team member for other projects.
  • Assists with snow and ice removal operations on roadways and sidewalks so they can be made safe as soon as possible, including callouts after normal working hours when available.
  • Adheres to WVDE Policy 5902, Employee Code of Conduct.
  • Completes semi-skilled maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Appropriately records inventory items used in completion of assigned tasks.
  • Maintains valid WV Driver's License if assigned to operate school vehicles.
  • Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5.
  • Meet the definition of "Qualifications" in WV Code §18A-4-8b, demonstrated competency pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e (state‑approved competency test), as required.
  • Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate.
  • Possess experience and/or training in any or all job classifications identified within this job description.
  • Possess a valid state‑issued motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Physically able to do heavy, extensive lifting and manual labor.
Physical Demands

To perform this job successfully, the employee must be able to reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, write, talk, hear, see, use technology such as computer and multimedia equipment, and use repetitive motions. The employee may frequently lift and or move at least 50‑100 pounds. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non‑prescribed drugs while in the workplace. Alcohol and controlled substances that affect employee productivity, safety, or judgement will not be tolerated.

  • The staff member demonstrates excellent communication skills and excellent presentation skills using current technologies.
  • The staff member understands that work assignments may change or be added as priorities emerge.
Salary

Hourly rate of pay based on WVSDB Service Personnel Salary Schedule, C Scale. Dependent on applicable years of experience and education level. Contract ends 6‑30‑2027.
