Custodian III/Handyman/Groundsman – Anticipated .
Location:
Wheeling Park High School.
Schedule:
6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., flexible hours. Term of employment: School Year.
Under the immediate supervision of the principal, perform a variety of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks in a school building to provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place to learn, play and develop.
Responsibilities- Perform cleaning and maintenance tasks as described in essential functions and job goals.
- Sweep, scrub, wax and oil floors; clean carpets; wash walls, windows, fixtures in restrooms, drinking fountains and wash basins.
- Operate floor buffers and other cleaning equipment; maintain and upgrade cleaning skills.
- Move and rearrange furniture; replace broken glass; perform minor maintenance as directed.
- Lock buildings and rooms as instructed; load/unload trucks; assist with grounds maintenance as assigned.
- Shovel snow, cut grass, and perform grounds maintenance tasks; plant and maintain landscaping; spread salt on walkways to prevent ice buildup.
- Inspect building before leaving; carry out weekend building checks; promote safety, health and comfort of students and staff.
- Participate in in-service training; maintain positive work habits and professional conduct.
- High School Diploma or GED; valid driver's license.
- Knowledge of janitorial methods, materials, and equipment; knowledge of pool maintenance; ability to operate HVAC, fire alarm and water systems.
- Ability to repair and clean carpet and tile; follow oral and written instructions; develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- Flexible schedule; good attendance; ability to pass the required West Virginia Service Personnel Tests for Custodian; any relevant combination of training and experience.
- Physical capacity for medium-heavy work; able to lift up to 50 pounds; endure a variety of weather conditions; stand/walk up to eight hours.
- Clean and maintain classrooms, hallways, restrooms and corridors; empty trash; maintain supplies.
- Perform heavy cleaning tasks, carpet care, and window/wall cleaning; replace worn or damaged materials as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of school grounds; operate grounds equipment and vehicles; perform snow/ice removal as required.
- Ensure building security; perform routine checks and safety observances; coordinate with supervisors as needed.
- Report needed repairs and maintain tools and equipment; comply with laws, policies and safety regulations.
