Position Purpose
The General Maintenance Worker Lead supports the campus mission by helping ensure facilities are clean, safe, and well maintained. This position assists the Facilities Building Service Supervisor II by leading work crews and providing daily oversight for custodial cleaning, event setups, deliveries, recycling, snow removal, and light maintenance. The role performs routine cleaning, basic repairs, and equipment operation across all campus buildings and grounds.
Work follows established schedules, service standards, and safety practices. By delivering reliable, responsive support and collaborating with the Facilities team, this position helps maintain a safe, sustainable, and welcoming environment for the campus community.
- Clean assigned work areas so that a safe, healthy, and attractive learning environment is available.
- Provide lead work to a group of General Maintenance/Custodial Workers by planning, assigning, directing, and inspecting their daily work activities to ensure established cleanliness, safety, and service standards are met.
- Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring proper labeling, dilution, handling, and use of all cleaning chemicals and products; wearing required personal protective equipment; adhering to established safety procedures; and complying with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and codes.
- Apply knowledge of safety precautions and procedures to daily tasks and secure work areas as required to protect staff, students, and the campus community.
- Perform other duties as assigned and perform a wide range of Facilities support duties – task completion, event preparation, basic maintenance, grounds work, equipment operation, emergency response, and assistance to maintenance and custodial staff to ensure smooth departmental operations and maintain clean, safe, and well‑functioning campus facilities.
- Follow instructions and complete assigned tasks within established timelines.
- Work cooperatively as a member of the Facilities team and comply with all Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements.
- Contribute to a positive, safe, and professional work environment while carrying out tasks that support overall facilities operations.
- Knowledge of principles of leadwork sufficient to plan, direct, provide training for, monitor and review the work of subordinates.
- Knowledge of different types of flooring sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance.
- Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
- Knowledge of methods, tools and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to operate safely, demonstrate effectively and make minor repairs or direct repairs.
- Ability to provide oral and written instructions sufficient to ensure other maintenance workers understand their assignments.
- Ability to keep records and perform clerical functions and math calculations sufficient to order supplies and complete inventories.
- Ability to read and understand written materials such as instruction manuals, procedures, and policy information.
- Ability to perform a variety of physical tasks, lift and carry materials weighing 40‑60 lbs (and occasionally more), and work in inclement weather conditions.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Human relations skills sufficient to work cooperatively and efficiently with coworkers, college staff, students, and the public.
- Demonstrate a knowledge of, an interest in, or experience with diverse cultures and populations.
- Previous maintenance/cleaning experience.

Work ShiftSunday – Thursday, 8:30PM – 5:00AM.
Salary Range$23.61 - $27.53 per hour.
