Job Description
Job Title: Custodian
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Grade: 201
Work Days: Full Time (days dependent upon operating calendar)
Reports To: Custodial & Building Maintenance Supervisor
Primary
Purpose:
Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures while keeping a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of the building’s operations.

Skills:
- Team oriented attitude and desire to work collaboratively with ESC staff, campus, district, and charter school personnel.
- Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures.
- Ability to lift and operate heavy cleaning equipment.
- Ability to lift and transport collected trash from the building to outside receptacles.
- Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies.

- Actively participate in and/or provide leadership for inter-departmental teams to help improve student performance in the region, improve the ESC internal operations, and meet the established goals and objectives for the ESC.
- Be responsive as the first point of contact to all stakeholders in the education community.
- Be responsible for cleaning the assigned area of the building including but not limited to the tasks listed on the schedule of duties for custodial staff.
- Comply with local laws and procedures for the proper storage and disposal of trash and recyclable paper and products.
- Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request replacements and repairs as needed.
- Assist with meeting room set‑ups as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, hand tools, carpet extractor, and other hardware necessary to effectively and efficiently perform the functions of the job.
Working ConditionsMental: Public relations and people skills are always required, work with frequent interruptions, and maintain professional composure and confidentiality under stress.
Physical: Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Continual walking and standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
Environmental: Working inside and outside the facility, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and ladders; exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, and toxic chemicals and materials.
EvaluationAnnual performance evaluation will be performed in accordance with the adopted policies of the Education Service Center Region 11. Employment in this position is contingent upon performance, need, and funding.
