Custodian – Performing Arts Center (Part-Time)

Job Title: Performing Arts Center Custodian (0.45 FTE – 18 hours per week)

Reports To: PAC General Manager / Assistant Superintendent

Location: Whitefish Middle School, Whitefish, Montana

Start Date: Immediate

Position Type: Part-Time

Salary: $23.65 per hour

Overview

Maintains the Performing Arts Center facility, including public spaces, booths, offices, restrooms, and support areas, in a clean, orderly, safe, and secure condition according to an established schedule. Performs routine custodial duties, assists with event setup and cleanup as needed, and carries out other related responsibilities as assigned. The District expects each staff member to put the safety, health, and well‑being of students at the forefront of all actions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, neat and clean at all times.
  • Sweep, mop, wet‑wash, and vacuum floors; clean sinks, equipment, etc.
  • Clean and thoroughly sanitize assigned restrooms.
  • Dust furniture and ledges; clean tables, windows, glass and polish fixtures.
  • Empty and clean wastebaskets and other trash receptacles.
  • Perform routine facility and equipment maintenance, including minor repairs, part replacement, and adjustments.
  • Do touch‑up painting and minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general mechanical areas.
  • Perform routine maintenance and preventative maintenance functions such as lubrication and part replacement.
  • Check, repair, or replace lights, fixtures, bulbs, and paper products daily.
  • Assist with event setup and cleanup as needed.
  • Set up and operate special‑purpose equipment (stage lighting, curtain operation, microphones, sound board equipment, set arrangements).
  • Check all windows, doors and cabinets for security; lock doors at day’s end; follow daily custodial work schedule; report vandalism or other concerns in writing.
  • Display a positive attitude toward students, staff, and associates; remain dependable, reliable, and punctual.
  • Operate as an integral, performance‑oriented part of the PAC team.
Qualifications Minimum
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Pass a pre‑employment physical screen.
Preferred
  • Previous custodial or janitorial experience.
  • One to two years of successful full‑time employment.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures, materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic safety practices and safe working methods.
  • Ability to operate specialized tools and polishing machinery.
  • Working knowledge of heating, plumbing, lighting, and ventilation equipment.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor without close supervision.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions; follow a work schedule.
  • Keep basic work records and make written reports.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Handle stressful situations, manage time, and meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
Equipment Used

Cleaning and maintenance tools and equipment, including vacuum, floor polishers, floor strippers, and miscellaneous scrubbing equipment.

Work Environment

The employee works inside and outside the facility; noise level is usually moderate but may be high during events. The role requires meeting deadlines with severe time constraints.

Physical Demands

Frequent walking, standing, traveling between buildings, pushing heavy equipment, twisting, reaching, kneeling. May lift or carry up to 50 pounds.

Mental and Motor Demands

Routine work that requires flexibility, attention, and sometimes oral and written communication. Work within time constraints.
