On-Site PAY RATE: $19.00 - $21.00/hour JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance Lead will perform duties to support the facility and grounds maintenance. The Facilities and Grounds team ensures the upkeep of all buildings, including animal exhibits, and equipment utilized by the Zoo. The Maintenance Lead will work closely with team members throughout the Zoo to plan and complete this work. Lehigh Valley Zoological Society is a non-profit founded in 2004 with a mission to connect its community with nature to empower people to protect wildlife.
MAINDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complete regular and preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Perform basic carpentry, plumbing and electrical installation and repair.
- Monitor fleet of vehicles for repairs and maintenance needs, including oil changes, inspections, etc.
- Paint/stain interiors and exteriors of buildings, deck(s), fences, exhibits.
- May help Zoo volunteers complete these projects.
- Repair sidewalks, driveways, fences, exhibits and any other items assigned.
- Inspect buildings, equipment, and systems to identify any issues.
- Repair faulty equipment units and damaged structures.
- Operate common hand and power tools frequently.
- Assist in maintaining and testing fire protection equipment.
- Manage maintenance shop tools and inventory, and conduct supply and materials run as needed.
- Maintain relationships with Zoo vendors and subcontractors.
- Assist groundskeepers with landscaping, grass cutting, snow shoveling and plowing.
- Collaborate with Animal Care team to ensure safe and respectful work near habitats and in public areas.
- Assist Guest Services and Marketing/Events with event setups, site restoration, and temporary infrastructure.
- Work in all weather conditions and be available for emergency response or after-hours needs as required.
- Help to monitor on-site parking and traffic flow during Zoo special events, including Winter Lights Spectacular.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able follow written and verbal instructions.
- Physical strength and endurance - able to lift and manipulate equipment.
- Able to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Demonstrated self-started and work independently as well as a member of a team.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a facilities maintenance area is required.
- May consider an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and ability for the job.
- Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and occasional after-hour or overnight assignments, in all weather conditions.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Employee must lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; carrying heavy materials, furniture, equipment and tools; climbing, crawling, and stooping to reach work; manual strength and dexterity to operate tools and equipment, and pull, push or manipulate heavy objects against resistance; work aerially, underground, and in exposure to bacterial contamination and hazardous chemicals and fumes;
Sense of smell to detect abnormal conditions such as smoke and odor associated with malfunctions and leaks. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually louder than a normal office environment le performing the job duties you will work outdoors in temperature extremes and inclement weather.
