The Facility Maintenance Laborer supports the day-to-day upkeep of all City of Whitehall facilities including, but not limited to:
City Hall, Police Department, Fire Department, and the Service Garage. This position performs routine repairs, preventive maintenance, groundskeeping, and custodial support to ensure each facility remains safe, clean, and fully functional. The position reports directly to the Facilities Operations Maintenance Chief.
General building maintenance, including patching walls, painting, replacing ceiling tiles, and repairing doors and hardware.
Preventive maintenance across all four facilities: HVAC filter changes, lubrication, inspections, and documentation.
Basic plumbing and electrical troubleshooting and repairs within scope.
Grounds keeping: mowing, trimming, debris removal, snow/ice removal, and salting.
Custodial assistance and event setup/breakdown as needed. Safety compliance, proper PPE use, and adherence to city safety standards.
Work order management, communication of supply needs, and accurate documentation.
Vendor and contractor coordination, including access to secure facilities.
On-Call emergency response to leaks, alarms, weather damage, and urgent facility issues.
Qualifications- 1–2 years of building, facility, or grounds maintenance experience.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
- Basic knowledge of building systems and safe tool operation.
- Ability to read and follow instructions, safety guidelines, and checklists.
- Comfortable using smartphones/tablets for work orders.
- Strong reliability, customer service skills, and attention to detail.
- 1–3 years in municipal, public safety, or multi-site facility maintenance.
- Basic carpentry, masonry, electrical & plumbing skills.
- Certifications such as OSHA-10/30, First Aid/CPR.
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs.
- Experience working in secure or public safety facilities.
