Job Details
This field-based General Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the maintenance function of assigned Dollar General stores within a geographic area. The responsibilities include immediate in-person response to resolve maintenance tickets, proactive preventative maintenance assessments, daily site support, and educating store leaders on maintenance best practices.
Interaction with all levels of operational leadership and occasional senior levels, as well as external vendors. The role advances customer service and brand growth through execution of Dollar General’s maintenance standards.
Key Responsibilities- The General Maintenance Technician travels to sites where maintenance concerns have been reported by store leadership.
- They troubleshoot, collect and verify asset information for on-site service projects, including guiding leadership on preventative maintenance and supporting entry-level repairs.
- They support entry-level maintenance, including light exterior grounds support and assessing safety equipment per local ordinances.
- They ensure tickets are documented and resolved within designated time frames to meet business needs.
- They perform training to root cause of issues when necessary.
- Occasional after‑hours work may be required based on repair urgency.
- While on-site, they perform checklists to determine if preventative maintenance or small maintenance activities can be completed and educate store leadership on operational processes.
High School Diploma or applicable experience.
Active Driver’s License.
Willingness to travel up to 100%.
Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Background Check.
Knowledge and Skills- Exceptional problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify and support entry-level repairs.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Effective communication at all levels – senior executives, organization, external.
- Unbridled commitment to customer service.
- Ability to work with multiple priorities.
- Previous store management/retail experience (preferred).
- Lifting capacity: 50 lbs+ (e.g., mulch).
