Job StoryThe Custodian of Special Events and Projects plays a key role inkeeping the WSU campus clean, disinfected, and safe while supporting the energetic flow of athletic, community, and special events that bring the university to life. This dynamic positionadapts to shifting schedules, including weekends, evenings, andnontraditional hours, to ensure every event shines, from packedathletic games to campus wide celebrations. In addition to event support, this role also contributes to important campus projects such as floor refinishing, carpet extraction, deep restroomsanitization, and seasonal maintenance tasks that keep facilities in top condition.
The position also champions environmentallyconscious “green” cleaning practices, helping create healthierspaces for students, staff, and visitors. Performs routine manual work in cleaning, servicing, and stockingsupplies in University buildings as well as routine manual work including set-up and support for University and athletic facilitiesspecial events and projects, excluding housing facilities.
Essential FunctionsAssists University special events by providing support before,during and after events. Sweeps, mops, and buffs and sprays bufffloors and vacuums rugs and carpets in assigned area as needed.
Provides support for floor care, including restoring, maintaining,and refinishing floors of all types as well as other custodialspecial projects. Washes windows, walls, and other assigned areas.
Picks up trash, empties garbage containers, and removes all trashto area for disposal. Cleans rest rooms, offices, and replenishes supplies. Maintains sufficient stock and supplies for the properperformance of assigned duties. Shovels and removes snow and icefrom designated areas such as roofs, sidewalks and entryways as required.

- Ability to learn the operation and care of equipment,including, but not limited to: vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines,polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment.
- Ability to work effectively with fellow workers andothers.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
- Ability to understand and follow explicit instructions, both inoral and written form.
- Ability and willingness to perform any of a variety of routine cleaning tasks.
PLEASE NOTE:
The support of special events and campus projects will require shift changes, working weekends, odd shifts, and other changes to benefit the event schedule. You must be able to adjustyour schedule for special events and projects
Ability to position self to clean designated areas, equipment anditems. This includes but is not limited to the ability to clean in confined, elevated, and loud noise spaces. Ability to use tools,equipment, and technology necessary to do the job. This includesdexterity in instrument manipulation. Ability to move, transport,and/or deliver items, supplies, or equipment. Ability to remove snow and ice from designated areas. Ability to ascend and descendladders and/or stairs.
Additional Physical Requirement:Heavy Work:
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/orup to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds offorce to constantly move objects.
