General Maintenance Worker – Intermittent (3 Positions)
Perform general cleaning and maintenance of the facility to create a pleasant and safe environment for learning.
Preserve the condition of the buildings and equipment. Set up and tear down functions for college and community events and assist all areas and departments for special college events. Positions are normally on an as‑need basis.
Responsibilities and Results- Clean and maintain areas to provide a sanitary, functional environment for activities.
- Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on vacuums, auto scrubbers, rotary scrubbers, extractors, and other mechanical equipment so cleaning and maintenance responsibilities are performed timely and efficiently. Make minor repairs in specific areas such as toilets, urinals, locks, tables, and seating as needed.
- Set up required equipment and furnishings so scheduled activities can be conducted. Secure buildings for closing.
- Clean sidewalks and entrances as needed to ensure orderly appearance and accessibility; keep grounds functional and safe.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Maintenance Supervisor to maintain the organization's reputation as a viable partner for community learning.
- Knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering to determine proper maintenance methods and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents, and equipment.
- Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents, and soaps to select, handle, apply, and dispose of safely.
- Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance to use effectively, operate safely, and make minor repairs.
- Physical health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions.
- Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform assigned tasks with limited work direction and keep simple records.
- Valid Minnesota State Class D driver’s license.
- Thorough knowledge of building custodial practices, procedures, equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Special Class C Boilers License or higher or ability to obtain one.
- Current Class A CDL driver’s license.
- Ability to write reports.
- Some knowledge of building utilities maintenance and repair.
In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use rental or state vehicles shall be required to conform to MnSCU’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
