This position performs semi-skilled jobs in a variety of trade areas. The incumbent typically replaces parts, makes minor adjustments to machinery, and repairs buildings, equipment and miscellaneous articles. Work is done in accordance with established procedures, and frequent and detailed instructions are given on new or complex work.
This position will maintain the structural maintenance of building facilities and equipment so that structural integrity, energy, efficiency, security and physical appearance are maintained. Also, make minor repairs to facilities to ensure the safety of occupants and extend the usefulness of the structures.

** Minimum Qualifications*
* To qualify, General Maintenance Worker applicants must meet all the following:
Knowledge of:
+ Different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents, and equipment.
+ Chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
+ Methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.
+ Painting products and the process of applying.
Ability to:
+ Maintain physical health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions.
+ Follow simple oral and written instructions.
+ Perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.
+ Keep simple records.

** Physical Requirements*
* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work in a variety of areas throughout the complex, and in some cases with a large variety of tools (both power and hand). The employee frequently uses gross and fine dexterity in a variety of positions including reaching outward and overhead, bending, working with outstretched arms and/or while lying on the back, working from heights and bending over.
The employee works with power tools, machinery/instruments and equipment, and hand tools requiring the frequent lifting and/or carrying/holding of supplies and parts up to 50 pounds and rarely up to 100 pounds. Loads over 100 pounds are lifted occasionally, but with the aid of lifting devices and fellow workers. Fine dexterity and eye coordination of the wrists, hands and fingers to handle, feel, scrape, pound or use force is constant up to 25 pounds.
Working conditions include vision, noise, vibration, respiratory and chemical hazards.
