Part-time Youth Services Librarian

Wilmette Public Library is looking for an energetic, creative, and self-motivated part-time Youth Services Librarian who is passionate about connecting children and families with books, learning, and discovery. In this role, you'll provide exceptional reference and readers' advisory services while creating welcoming, engaging experiences for every patron.

The ideal candidate is patient, imaginative, and customer-focused, with a strong knowledge of children's literature and a genuine enthusiasm for working with young people. Reporting to the Youth Services Manager, you'll help develop, promote, and maintain our vibrant children's collections, support the outstanding programs we offer the community, and inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning.

• Provide welcoming customer service and reference and readers’ advisory to all patrons.
• Plan and conduct programs for children, teachers, parents, and care-givers that respond to the needs of the community.
• Contribute to collection development and maintenance for assigned area(s). Utilize circulation and statistical reports, as well as, general professional and library-specific collection guidelines to shape decisions on weeding, promotion and selection, ensuring collection is diverse, current, relevant, and meets the needs of the community.
• Work with and provide outreach to youth-serving city agencies, schools, and organizations.
• Prepare book lists and other user resources, book displays, book talks and reviews, and other collection-based programs.

• MLS or MLIS degree from an accredited graduate library school required.
• Public library experience required.
• Early childhood programming experience required.
• Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service experience in a public library setting.
• Demonstrated knowledge of children’s literature and current trends in the delivery of library services to children required.
• Working knowledge of reference resources, in both print and non-print formats.
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
• Ability to understand and efficiently use our technology (Microsoft Office Suite) and troubleshoot technology-related issues.
• Starting Hourly Range:
• Eligible to participate in our pension plan, Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
• Paid Time Off: earn 2 hours of paid leave for every 40 hours worked. Also, prorated sick time based off of hours worked in previous year.
• Potential to earn up to two paid holidays per year.
• Tuition reimbursement eligibility after a year of service.

• Part-time, non-exempt position scheduled for 20-25 hours per week.
• Wednesday morning: 9:00am – 1:00pm.
• 1 evening shift per week: TBD (5:00pm – 9:00pm).
• Must be available to work one Saturday shift every 4 weeks: 9am – 1pm or 1:00pm – 5:00pm.
• Must be able to work a Sunday every 4 weeks: 12:00pm – 5:00pm.
