SUMMARY:
Founded in 1908, the Wilmette Park District is a government agency responsible for acquiring, developing, and maintaining natural areas, parks, and leisure facilities in the Village of Wilmette. Our suburban community is located 14 miles north of Chicago. We are stewards of over 300 acres of parks and open land including Gillson Park and the Wilmette Beaches;
Keay Nature Center;
Community Playfield;
Mallinckrodt Park and a portion of the Green Bay Bike Trail. Neighborhood parks can be found in 18 additional locations throughout our village. The Wilmette Park District also plans, develops and executes a wide range of recreational programs and activities that reflect the interests of all age groups in the Wilmette community.
The Preschool Lead Teacher is responsible for the development of preschool children 2-5 years old, including creating lesson plans, supervising academic and emotional development, maintaining open communication with parents, coordinating with Assistant Teachers, and helping children with transitions. This is a PT1-ACA position with individual HMO benefits and Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). Additional benefits are listed below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Display professionalism in punctuality, mannerisms, and attire.
- Develop, present, and evaluate appropriate play-based curriculum lesson plans.
- Supervise all classroom and daily routine activities.
- Maintain and monitor ongoing parent communication, including email and online parent communication app.
- Direct and assist co-teachers in all daily preparation work and cleanup of rooms.
- Complete site lesson plan prep work on a rotating basis.
- Attend and contribute to monthly lesson plan meetings.
- Submit supply requests to the Preschool Supervisor.
- Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with parents and other staff members.
- Establish a nurturing relationship with the children in addition to serving as a positive role model.
- Treat children in a positive manner that encourages individuality and positive self-esteem.
- Responsible for maintaining and updating bulletin boards.
- Maintain and maintain a minimum of 15 hours of training outside of teaching preschool in one calendar year, including the park district in-service training, staff, and safety trainings.
- Inform the Preschool Supervisor of any problems, conflicts, or program concerns.
- Responsible for keeping class attendance, emergency, medical, and registration forms on file for each child.
- Treat public complaints and concerns with the utmost attention and be courteous in all cases.
- Work as a team player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments.
- Actively uphold and contribute to the Wilmette Park District Comprehensive and Strategic Plan, including the Guiding Principles and Strategic Priorities.
- Actively contribute to the Park District's sustainability goals.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidents.
- Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that are pertinent to the activities conducted by the department.
- Become familiar with and follow safety procedures of the Wilmette Park District including, but not limited to fire, severe weather and evacuation procedures.
- Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions observed to immediate supervisor and Human Resources and Risk Manager.
- Attend and participate in required safety trainings.
- Review all accident and incident reports that occur under area of responsibility and send them to Human Resources/Risk Management division.
