PT Environmental Technician

Definition

To perform routine building cleaning tasks; related work as required. This is repetitive manual work requiring efficient performance of simple building cleaning and maintenance duties. An employee in this class works under general supervision on routine recurring assignment, receiving specific instructions on each new or unusual assignment.

• Receives supervision from the Supervisor and/or Custodian Supervisor
• Exercises no supervision

• Sweep, mop, wax and buff floors, halls, and stairways.
• Wash windows, doors and mirrors and polish furniture.
• Dust woodwork, furniture, venetian blinds, blackboards and other articles.
• Collect paper and rubbish.
• Keep lounge clean.
• Clean and supply restrooms.
• Observe and report hazardous conditions.
• Operate cleaning equipment as required.
• Clean overhead vents and air filters.
• Maintain a positive working relationship with faculty, supervisors, staff, co‑workers, and students.

• May shovel snow
• May deliver packages and messages.
• May assist in training new custodial personnel
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities assigned.

• Some knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment.

• Maintain effective audio‑visual discrimination and perception needed for observing, reading, writing, communicating, operating equipment, handling varied tasks simultaneously
• Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, handling varied tasks simultaneously, bending, stooping, climbing or lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Maintain mental capacity that allows making sound decisions, responding to questions, and demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

• Minimum high school diploma

• At least 6 months building cleaning experience

• One or more years building cleaning experience

• Candidates are required to submit official transcripts for all degrees obtained prior to their first day of work or hire date. If highest level of education is high school diploma or equivalent, proof of completion is required.
• Candidates who have obtained their education outside of the United States and its territories must have their academic degree(s) validated, at their own expense, by an outside credential evaluation service as equivalent to a baccalaureate or master’s degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.
