Job Details

Christiana Care is looking for a full‑time Maintenance Mechanic III in Wilmington, Delaware to provide a safe, compliant and continuous operation of a healthcare facility’s physical infrastructure and mechanical systems.

Hours

Rotating shifts.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair minor portable patient equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, IV poles, stretchers, beds, HVAC, plumbing, electrical; oversee pneumatic tubes)
  • Perform building maintenance tasks such as hanging pictures, replacing ceiling and floor tiles, fixing cove base, light bulbs, cabinetry, and mounting signs
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and record readings on building systems
  • Respond to emergency situations, including power failures, fire alarms, elevator entrapments, and water events
  • Audit contractors and permits, including Above Ceiling Inspections and ICRA/PCRA inspections
  • Review, audit, and install fire stopping systems
  • Triage work and assign to tradespersons as needed
  • Document, manage, and communicate all maintenance activities using CMMS
  • Perform light welding and metal work as necessary
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas at all times
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures and report unsafe conditions promptly
Education & Experience
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Five years of practical mechanical experience (hospital experience preferred)
  • Any combination of education and experience may substitute for the above
Knowledge, Skill, & Ability Requirements
  • Knowledge of CCHS policies and procedures
  • Prioritizing workload and solving problems independently
  • Familiarity with shop and vendor manuals
  • Mechanical and analytical problem‑solving skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools and electrical test equipment (e.g., screwdrivers, pliers, pipe wrenches, drills, saws, grinders)
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems
  • Effective telephone and two‑way radio communication
Physical Demands
  • Walking, lifting, bending/stooping, reaching, and climbing
Working Conditions
  • Exposure to oils, grease, chemical fumes, dust, heat, and noise
