Job Description Summary

Under the general supervision of the manager, assist in, support, and provide oversight of the work assigned to the Surplus and Event staff. Leveraging positivity and coaching measures is necessary to achieve and maintain satisfactory performance. This position is considered a subject matter expert and is expected to assist in the leadership and mentorship of other Surplus and Event technicians while providing excellent, collaborative, customer-focused service.

Responsible for assisting with the movement, setup, breakdown, and storage of University surplus items, relocation of assets for campus moves, and campus events. This position must provide consistently high levels of customer service and possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships with university customers across all levels.

Essential Functions

Assist with surplus management, including the collection, transportation, and delivery of University surplus goods as needed.

Assist the manager with oversight of daily staff and operations.

Assist with moving furniture/equipment needed for faculty and staff work location changes, as well as resetting room furniture in residence halls as needed.

Includes temporarily relocating furniture and other campus equipment for events.

Assist in the delivery, setup, breakdown, movement, and storage of event-related supplies and equipment for indoor and outdoor events, both on and off Reynolda campus, such as:
Trash and recycling cans, power cords, cable covers, event-specific supplies, tables, chairs, podiums, stages, stanchions, signs, coat racks, flooring, stairs, and other requested equipment.

Operate material-handling equipment, including pallet jacks, dollies, carts, and other moving equipment.

Operate large box trucks, standard-size trucks, and gas-operated ‘golf-cart’ vehicles.

Staff, organize and assist during open surplus hours each week.

Complete assigned work via the work order system, inputting hours and notes as needed.

Clean and maintain work spaces and warehouse facilities, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, bathroom upkeep, and other general maintenance as assigned.

Regularly servicing propane fire pits and heaters.

Serve as the main point of contact in the absence of the Manager.

Assists the Manager in decision-making for future projects, event rentals, and supplies.

Other Functions

Follows all University and departmental policies and procedures.

Reports any safety concerns to the appropriate Supervisor and the Director of Environmental Health and Safety if necessary.

Responsible for keeping work vehicles clean and in good operating condition.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Ability

High school diploma, or GED with two years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Ability to communicate effectively in the English language sufficient to perform the duties of the position.

Possesses strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships with university customers across all levels.

Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Must be flexible and adaptable to work as part of an integrated team to achieve goals and objectives.
