Grounds Technician- Athletic Maintenance

If you enjoy working outdoors, taking pride in well-kept parks and athletic facilities, and aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty, the city is looking for a Grounds Technician! You’ll help maintain City parks, landscaping projects, and athletic fields by mowing, weed eating, edging, pruning, removing trash, performing janitorial tasks, and caring for turf—all while interacting professionally with the public and staff.

You’ll assist with setting up for special events, keep accurate records and daily worksheets, perform preventative maintenance on assigned equipment, help clean up after weather emergencies, and support other departments whenever needed.

• Performs general maintenance by mowing grass, edging, weed eating, picking up trash, applying pesticides, trimming landscape, cleaning bathrooms and shelters, removing trash cans, watering, and fertilizing.
• Assists with special projects by setting up for events and assisting with natural disaster clean up.

Positions assigned to the Athletics division may also be responsible for the following:

• Opens and secures facilities by operating alarm system, locking doors and gates, turning off and on stadium lights, and operating sound equipment and scoreboards.
• Provides customer service to the public by assisting with athletic team requests, and working with citizens to meet their needs.

• Ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. No experience is required.
• Class C Driver’s License.
• Ability to work before, during, and after emergencies and/or natural disasters.
• Basic computer literacy as necessitated for timekeeping, performance documentation and online training.

Lifts and moves up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 25 lbs. frequently, and up to 10 lbs. constantly.

This position generally requires working outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

The City offers two options for health coverage: a standard PPO plan and a High Deductible Health Plan with an associated Health Savings Account. Coverage becomes effective the first day of the month following hire for employees and their eligible dependents. Both you and the City contribute to the overall cost of coverage.
