We are recruiting for a Custodian position on our campus in Willimantic (Windham County), CT.

- Second Shift – 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
- Tuesday to Saturday.
- Location:
Willimantic, CT. - Valid driver's license required.
- Preference may be given to current BOR/CSCU employees and/or State of CT employees.
The individual in this position will be responsible for ensuring that building sanitation and cleanliness is maintained at the highest standard.
Purpose of Job Class (Nature of Work)In a state agency, this class is accountable for performing a full range of basic tasks in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings.
Examples of Duties- Perform custodial tasks and maintain areas such as dormitories, classrooms, offices, auditoriums, wards, kitchens, dining rooms, and lavatories, including outdoors (e.g., trash around buildings).
- Dust, mop, sweep, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors using appropriate equipment.
- Wash, dust, and polish glass, windows, woodwork, walls, furniture, and metal equipment.
- Make beds.
- Check, mark, store, and issue linens, blankets, and clothing within the individual’s work area.
- Collect and count soiled laundry.
- Distribute, empty, and sterilize glassware, wash basins and bedpans.
- Sweep walkways.
- Collect and dispose of trash.
- Report needs for repairs.
- Perform minor maintenance.
- Run errands.
- Inspect buildings for damage and report conditions to the supervisor.
- May change light bulbs and replace fuses.
- May lubricate or tighten door hinges, drawers, and cabinets.
- May replace ceiling or floor tiles.
- May remove snow and ice from stairways and walkways.
- May sand and salt stairways and walkways.
- May move furniture and set up classrooms.

Special RequirementsIncumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits, and/or certifications.
Physical Requirements- Must have adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, visual, and auditory acuity, and maintain the fitness necessary to perform the duties of the class.
- A physical examination may be required.
Incumbents may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to risk of injury from equipment and/or individuals.
