Introduction

• Slip‑resistant footwear required at all times
• Preference for current State of CT employees or ECSU employees

The position maintains building sanitation and cleanliness to the highest standard, reporting to duty even during inclement weather.

• Perform custodial tasks in dormitories, classrooms, offices, auditoriums, kitchens, dining rooms, lavatories and outdoor areas
• Dust, mop, sweep, scrub, strip, wax and polish floors using appropriate equipment
• Wash and polish glass, windows, woodwork, walls, furniture and metal equipment
• Make beds; manage linens and laundry; distribute, empty and sterilize glassware and wash basins
• Sweep walkways; collect and dispose of trash
• Report needed repairs; perform minor maintenance
• Run errands; inspect buildings for damage and report to supervisor
• Replace light bulbs, fuses, door hinges, drawers, cabinets, ceiling or floor tiles as needed
• Remove snow and ice from stairways and walkways; sand and salt as required
• Move furniture and set‑up classrooms

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Capability to operate and maintain tools and equipment
• Record‑keeping ability

Any experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.

• Valid, unexpired Connecticut driver’s license
• Experience in student or public environments
• Experience following directions, prioritizing tasks and working independently with minimal supervision
• Experience with repetitive tasks involving lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and moving up to 50 pounds
• Experience shoveling snow and ice from stairways and walkways

May require current licenses, permits or certifications as directed by appointing authority.

Requires adequate strength, stamina, agility, visual and auditory acuity, with the ability to lift moderate to heavy weights. Physical examination may be required.

May involve lifting moderate to heavy weights and exposure to risk of injury from equipment or individuals.
