As the leader of this space and its functions, the school librarian ensures that the school library environment provides all members of the school community access to information and technology, connecting learning to real-world events. By providing access to an array of well-managed resources, school librarians enable academic knowledge to be linked to deep understanding."

We seek applicants with the following qualities:
* High energy level, as well as a keen understanding of elementary education best practices, child development principles, and a strong desire and commitment to work with elementary level children.
* Possesses a growth mindset, strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
* Guide staff in finding, learning, and using instructional resources, tools, and strategies for learning and assessment.
* Ability to lead professional learning to cultivate broader understanding of the skills that embody success in a digital age (e.g. critical thinking, creativity, innovation, information, literacy, digital citizenship, technology competencies, etc.).
* Shares expertise at faculty meetings, parent meetings, and/or school board meetings.
* Encourages and facilitates students to become increasingly self-directed as they create digital products of their learning that engage them in authentic, real-world problem-solving through Makerspace and Design Thinking activities.
* Help facilitate curricular and experiential connections outside of the classroom.
* Maintains a dynamic learning community by engaging students to develop attitudes, habits, and skills that will enable them to become lifelong readers and learners.
* Helps establish yearly and long-term goals for the library media program aligned with the district's mission and vision.
* Selects, purchases, and processes new materials to assure a current and balanced collection representing diverse points of view and identities.
* Assumes responsibility for other duties as assigned
EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION/ CERTIFICATES/ QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must have appropriate Illinois Professional Educator's License with an elementary grade level Library Information Specialist endorsement.
2. Strong knowledge of subject matter
3. Willingness to complete necessary training prior to start of position
4. Strong leadership, facilitation, and communication skills
5. Able to build effective relationships in a supportive professional environment
6. Able to be flexible, reliable, and independent with schedule and time
7. Clearance of FBI/Background check required
8. Physical Exam within last year of hire date
9. Valid First Aid/CPR Cards preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Moderate degree of physical stamina with occasional lifting of 10 to 15 pounds and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds required in the physical assistance of students with special needs. Ability to move freely to various locations within the classroom, office and other business and community settings. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and bending. Frequent repetitive activities including hands, arms, and legs for clerical related work.
Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and fringe benefits will be set in accordance with the Winnetka Professional Agreement and reviewed annually by the School Board.
