Greeley Elementary School of The Winnetka Public Schools District 36 has an open position for a full-time Social Emotional Learning Coach for the  School Year effective August 24, 2026.

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

The Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Coach advances The Winnetka Public Schools' vision by partnering with educators and administrators to improve student social-emotional and behavioral outcomes through a collaborative coaching model. The SEL Coach brings specialized expertise in SEL, behavior, communication, curriculum, assessment, and instruction, and applies research-based and innovative practices from both proactive and responsive perspectives. In this role, the SEL Coach supports the District's professional learning model by working directly with teachers and teams to apply and sustain new skills, and by collaborating with other coaches and school leaders to design and deliver high-quality professional learning.

As a member of the coaching team, the SEL Coach also engages in ongoing professional learning and reflection to strengthen their own leadership and practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Additional descriptors may be found in the Teacher Evaluation Document):

1. Regarding Planning and Preparation/Assessment Management: Facilitate the development and implementation of the District's instructional program in the curricular area of assignment;
Work collaboratively with teachers to design lessons that integrate engaging tasks that balance the Progressive Education tenets of Whole Child, Experiential and Meaningful Learning, and Collaborative Community;
Engage teachers in refining instructional skills to develop student proficiency and growth;
Reflect with teachers to evaluate student learning;
Build teacher confidence, content knowledge and enthusiasm to implement curriculum and inquiry-based instruction;
Plan instructional scope and sequence and observe and model classroom instruction;
Assist in the development of assessments; research, evaluate, and create supplemental materials and resources in the assigned discipline to differentiate student need;
Provide support to schools for data analysis for School Improvement Plans; and Analyze data for curriculum and program reviews.

2. Regarding the Learning Environment: Initiate and build relationships that are highly respectful and trusting, collaborative, and supportive;
Promote an environment that values reflection and continuous improvement within a culture of professional inquiry;
Support change in a respectful environment; and Establish a framework for collaborating with teachers that includes use of coaching practices.

3. Regarding Instruction: Implement coaching cycles and related structures as a means of supporting staff growth and development;
Guide implementation of any common curriculum based assessments for one's content area;
Co-facilitate the various stages of the Curriculum Review Process specific to the assigned discipline;
Participate in leadership development opportunities, support sub-committee work;
Attend meetings, order materials;
Identify and participate in professional development opportunities.

4. Regarding Professional Responsibilities: Model professionalism, integrity, confidentiality and personal growth;
Plan, support, and deliver professional development in one's content area including methods to differentiate instruction;
Attend leadership team meetings with other building coaches assigned to content area;
Support the implementation of instructional initiatives and School Improvement Goals;
Support the development and implementation of District-wide/Summer Institute Days and early release planning;
Provide staff development for teachers related to assessment and data analysis;
Attend grade level release and curriculum review meetings and follow up as necessary;
Coordinate and manage instructional materials; and Serve as a liaison between the District/Principal/Township and colleagues;
Complete all District compliance training as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Perform other duties as directed by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Innovation, Learning and Teaching, or Building Principal/Assistant Principal.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have appropriate Illinois Professional Educator's License (SW/School Psychologist/School Counselor/Teacher).
  • 4 or more years of relevant classroom teaching experience
  • Strong knowledge of subject matter
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, and communication skills
  • Able to build effective relationships in a supportive professional environment
  • Able to be flexible, reliable, and independent with schedule and time
  • Clearance of FBI/Background check and EHR/Faith's Law required
  • Physical Exam within last year of hire date
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Cards preferred
