Job Title:
Instructional Assistant – English, MTSS Read-Write Strategies

Assignment: School year; 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 7.5 hours

Occupational Group: NTESPA – Instructional

Location: Winnetka Campus

Supervisor: Associate Principal for Student Services

Starting Rate: $21.71/hour

Position Outcomes:

To provide one-on-one and small group academic support in reading and writing to students identified for Tier 2 intervention, helping them achieve their English course learning objectives through the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).

General Responsibilities:

This work involves close interaction with staff and students, with the primary emphasis on delivering targeted academic interventions to students in need of additional support. This individual works under the direction of certified staff and administration. The candidate is expected to exercise independent judgment, discretion, and confidentiality and react appropriately in crisis situations, as well as exhibit initiative, creativity and organizational skills.

Qualifications:
  • Possession of or ability to obtain Illinois State Board of Education Educator License with Stipulations - Paraprofessional or other ISBE license that requires a college degree.
  • Knowledge of and experience with high school students’ needs and behavior problems.
  • Strong communication skills and collaboration skills.
  • Highly organized, responsible, and reliable
  • Knowledge/Ability/

    Skills:
  • Strong language arts skills in composition, literature, reading, and/or general studies.
  • Strong knowledge of computers and software applications, particularly Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications, and Canvas.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and distinctly with staff, outside agencies, and students.
  • Ability to take initiative.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience, flexibility and judgment in interacting with students with behavioral needs.
  • Ability to work with students one-on-one and modify materials for individualized support.
  • Position Expectations:
  • Assists students in the Reading and Writing Strategies Program, under the direction of certified staff by:
    • Providing individualized or group instruction in reading and writing;
    • taking attendance for students in RWS;
    • reporting to faculty about the performance of students in RWS;
    • assisting with the administration of assessments, including diagnostic and progress monitoring computer-assisted exams;
    • delivering targeted reading and writing support for students in RWS;
    • measuring and monitoring students’ progress;
    • communicating student progress to classroom teachers and problem solving teams; and
    • working with the Student Support Coordinator to complete progress reports for the MTSS team.
  • Continues job performance enhancement by participating in professional growth activities.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and projects a positive image of the district to parents, students and staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
