R&D Technician

The R&D Technician will work within the Analytical group, primarily in a R&D lab setting, preparing samples and running analytical tests. The chemist will provide project support including: analytical analysis, performance testing, reagent preparation and standardization, and general lab work. This position is an excellent opportunity for an early-career scientist to build a strong technical foundation while developing new skills and expertise in analytical chemistry.
The role offers a clear path for growth through hands-on use of advanced instrumentation, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities:
- Learn and perform a wide range of analysis techniques, including titration, chromatography (HPLC, GPC and/or GC), liquid-liquid extraction, ICP-OES, DSC, TGA, viscosity, flashpoint, density, etc.
- Self-assign work, resolve problems in analysis, and report results accurately and on time.
- Participate in department workgroup; contribute ideas and suggestions for improving department infrastructure and work processes.
- Actively participate in safety/waste programs and steadfastly adheres to safety policies/standards.
- Work both collaboratively and independently.
- Communicate supply and chemical needs.
Qualifications:
- Must have a desire to work in a laboratory-based role as a bench chemist.
- Must have strong attention to detail with good documentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and self-driven motivation are helpful in this role.
- Must have excellent hands-on experimentation skills, with the ability to accurately follow written procedures to conduct analytical testing.
- Previous experience working in a laboratory environment is preferred.
- Experience in some of our common analytical techniques, such as titration, HPLC, GC, ICP-OES, DSC, TGA, or other wet chemical testing is desired.
- Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications and willing to learn specific database and web applications.
- Must be able to work in Northfield laboratory.
- Must be able to sit, stand, communicate by phone/email, and use a PC for extended periods of time.
- Must also be able to safely use a foot stool to reach jars/containers in tall cabinets.
- Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working in the lab (safety glasses, gloves, lab coat with long sleeves, appropriate footwear, etc.).
- Education:
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biology, or other related science.
Pay Range: $46,000 - $58,000
The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.
