Position Overview

Works as a seasonal laborer in the Park Maintenance or Public Works department. Employee works under the direction of the division superintendent and designated representative. Performs various duties related to the division. You may work in both Park Maintenance and Public Works departments throughout the season.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School graduate or GED
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Mechanical aptitude
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Painting and working with hand and power tools
  • General building, grounds and custodial maintenance and repairs at lodges, recreation center and City campground (trash pick up, clean bathrooms, floors, etc.)
  • Driving and maneuvering City vehicle with trailer
  • Operating small engines such as power mower (ride and push style), chainsaw, weed-whipper, and power sprayer
  • Frequently lift 10 pounds, regularly lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift 100 pounds
  • Perform duties as assigned related to the division as listed below
Park Maintenance
  • General custodial duties at lodges, recreation center and city campground (trash pickup, bathrooms, floors)
  • Weeding and cultivating plant/flower beds
  • Driving tractor or bobcat
  • Other related duties as assigned
Street
  • Filling holes in street with patching material
  • Assisting in spreading of seal coating on streets
  • Removing debris from storm sewer grates
  • Other related duties as assigned
Wastewater and Water
  • General building and grounds maintenance
  • Driving and maneuvering City vehicle with trailer
  • Working with hand and power tools
  • Operating small engines such as power mower (ride and push style), chainsaw, weed-whipper, and power sprayer
  • Other related duties as assigned
Hours of Work
  • Park Maintenance: 20 or 40 hours per week
  • Public Works: 40 hours per week
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Maturity and ability to handle responsibility
  • Communication and cooperation with supervisors and fellow workers
  • Ability to perform tasks of nominal difficulty and acquire limited skill to do work of the department
  • Physical strength and ability to perform strenuous manual labor for extended period of time
  • Ability to work in adverse climatic conditions for extended period of time
