Position: Park Attendant (Part-Time)

General Purpose

The Park Attendant performs general and routine custodial duties and customer service for the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. This position accomplishes a variety of custodial and customer service tasks in the City’s parks such as greeting patrons, opening and closing facilities, cleaning facilities, and communicating safety rules and regulations. Work is performed under close supervision – the incumbent is assigned duties according to specified procedures and receives detailed instructions;

work is checked frequently and is reviewed through observation and review of results achieved.

Essential Functions

NOTE:

  • Serve as visible park staff and welcome residents and visitors to the parks.
  • Communicate and enforce safety rules and regulations.
  • Assist with special events and other park activities. Greet rental customers to ensure successful events such as pavilion rentals, weddings and special events.
  • Police the park and adjoining areas for litter and natural debris.
  • Empty trash cans and recycling bins.
  • Clean and stock restrooms with appropriate supplies.
  • Lock and unlock doors and gates; turn lights on and off.
  • Perform other work as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • General knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules, and practices of the work.
  • General knowledge of departmental and municipal rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • General knowledge of standard and effective cleaning procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment, vehicles, and small hand tools, blowers, and pressure washers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, city officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate information tactfully and impartially, both in person and in writing with all staff, city officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the City of Winter Park Core Competencies.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and keep accurate records.
  • General familiarity with information contained in relevant source documents or information in a particular subject field; ability to use relevant sources to obtain specific or supplemental information.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities and other competencies required for the position may be considered.

Special Requirements

NOTE: All certifications must be current at the time of application, and must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.

  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License, Class E or higher.
Other Requirements Physical

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force repetitively to lift, carry, push, pull, and reposition objects. Ability to traverse a variety of city facilities/jobsites, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to ascend/descend stairs, scaffolds, and ladders. Ability to remain stationary at jobsites for extended periods of time and repetitively operate related equipment for repairs/maintenance.

Ability to manipulate objects, demonstrate small, precise movements, and operate necessary equipment such as small hand and power tools repetitively or continuously.

Environmental

Tasks may require frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, sun, extreme temperatures, odors, dirt and dust, loud noises, and hazardous chemicals.

Sensory

Tasks require the manipulation of objects and demonstration of small, precise movements, the ability to detect and distinguish various features of one’s surroundings, and the ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with others.
