AFTERNOON CUSTODIAN
Job SummaryProvides daily general cleaning services in the building, minor maintenance and more intensive cleaning tasks at specified intervals as directed by the director of support services and/or building principal/administrator.
Major Duties and Responsibilities (May include but not be limited to)- General cleaning which includes sweeping floors; dusting furniture, light fixtures, all return/fresh air vents, walls, doors system, lockers; washing windows; stripping, scrubbing, waxing, and maintaining all floor surfaces; emptying wastebaskets, trash barrels, and disposing of all trash.
- Cleans and sanitizes toilets, washroom floors and walls, and keeps all dispensers supplied with paper products and/or soaps.
- Cleans and sanitizes all drinking fountains and sinks.
- Replaces light bulbs, fluorescent bulbs, and cleans fixture lenses.
- Loads and unloads delivery trucks as necessary.
- Stacks and delivers supplies and equipment, i.e., cartons of paper, cleaning materials, supplies, etc., in the building as needed.
- Sets up equipment, tables, chairs, bleachers, and anything else necessary for both school and public meetings and events.
- Assists in snow removal and the salting of sidewalks.
- Performs other tasks related to the duties of custodian as directed by the director of support services and/or building principal or administrator.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Physically able to load, unload, and lift cartons of supplies and materials of up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to set up ladders, work at heights when replacing light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and work on the roof to retrieve sports equipment or keep drain covers free of debris.
- Ability to work with hand tools and power drills/screwdrivers (minor repair).
- Have a good prior work record regarding attendance, punctuality, dependability, positive attitude, and cooperation with other personnel.
- Ability to solve problems when working alone and finish an assigned task.
- Must prove ability to work with the public, students, and staff at all times.
- Ability to evaluate and order cleaning supplies for assigned building.
- Ability to read and understand shipping forms, order forms, and have filing skills.
- Being on feet continually for eight hours.
- Squat, bend when moving furniture, boxes, supplies, etc.
- Run heavy machinery, such as floor scrubber.
- Mop continuously with a 24 oz. wet mop.
- Lift and push 50 pounds continuously, and capable of lifting heavy loads above head.
- Climb a ladder and work at heights.
