Training and/or experience as a custodian or cleaning operations or equivalent;
Training and/or basic computer skills.

Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Performs a variety of custodial tasks to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the facility and grounds (e.g., sweeps, dusts, wet mops, vacuums, strips, scrubs, waxes floors, dusts, restocks restrooms, shampoos carpets, empties trash, washes walls, windows, doors woodwork, mirrors, shoveling snow, spreading salt, and removing graffiti).
  • Operates necessary equipment safely, including vacuum cleaners, buffers, scrubbers, hand trucks, flatbeds, and cleaning agents.
  • Performs minor repairs and reports major repairs to the Head Custodian and Custodial Supervisor.
  • Performs regular HVAC filter maintenance and light bulb replacement where appropriate (excluding areas requiring lift or scaffold).
  • Maintains an inventory of supplies and materials; requests needed replacements in advance to avoid interruptions.
  • Complies with proper and safe waste disposal; follows safety practices and procedures.
  • Knows the location of services (gas, water, electricity) and how to shut them down if necessary.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance and positive customer service in interactions with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Assists coworkers as required and performs other tasks assigned by the Custodial Supervisor or Head Custodian within time and reason.
  • Remains on school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when use of the facility is authorized by the principal.
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissues; occasional use of hand tools and power equipment; occasional use of hazardous chemicals; occasional duties requiring ladders below 10 feet; lifting and moving supplies and equipment.

Salary Range: $21.62 to $27.16 per hour

Shift Premium: $0.45 per hour

General Description

Performs a variety of custodial tasks to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the facility and grounds; operates equipment (e.g., scrubs, burnishers, leaf blowers, shovels), follows safety practices and procedures, and represents the Wooster City School District in a favorable image at all times.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Training and/or experience as a custodian or cleaning operations or equivalent.
  • Training and/or basic computer skills.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists coworkers as required.
  • Performs other tasks assigned by the Custodial Supervisor or Head Custodian within time and reason.
  • Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the facility is authorized and attendance is required by the principal.
Inherently Hazardous and Physically Demanding Working Conditions
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissues.
  • Occasional use of hand tools and operation of power equipment.
  • Occasional use of potentially hazardous chemicals.
  • Occasional performance of duties requiring the use of ladders below 10 feet.
  • Lifting and moving supplies, materials, and equipment (e.g., furniture, ladders, boxes of books and paper).
Knowledge, Ability and Skills

Knowledge of: Board policies and procedures, safety practices and procedures, custodial methods and techniques.

Ability to: Perform physical labor, lift and move up to 75 lbs, communicate effectively, and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, students and the public; operate standard tools of the trade.

Skills in: Use and care of tools and equipment.
