ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
The Maintenance Technician is an energetic and flexible employee responsible for the general maintenance and repair of Collaborative buildings, building systems and grounds through resourcefulness and sound judgment consistent with the rules and regulations of the Central Massachusetts Collaborative.
The Maintenance Technician will perform general maintenance and repairs for the facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry and will assure the proper functioning of heating, cooling and other building systems.
Responsibilities- Examine school buildings and grounds on a regular basis for safety, security, needed repairs and maintenance and troubleshoot issues to determine necessary repairs. Report any condition of the facilities that is not safe or functioning as designed to supervisor.
- Assist with the coordination of inspections for all playgrounds, kitchen equipment, elevator systems and life safety equipment and systems.
- Routinely inspect all mechanical, electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems including building rooftop units and perform routine maintenance of same.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, ADA, and fire code regulations. Keep records of inspections, permits, and maintenance logs.
- Assist with the development and implementation of equipment and systems preventative maintenance programs and plans.
- Assist with the development and implementation of a painting and maintenance schedule.
- Responsible for managing and maintaining the Collaborative’s work request/order system and maintaining records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
- Clean and assist with upkeep of the facilities. Arrange furniture and equipment for meetings, classes, and special events. Deliver and move materials or furniture between locations as needed.
- Perform general repairs that do not require a specialized technician (e.g., repairing drywall, painting, repairing doors and other building fixtures).
- Support procurement activities as required for maintenance and ground operations, including services, parts and supplies.
- Assist with preparation of specifications for work to be performed by outside vendors; secure product and/or services adhering to applicable procurement laws and process; coordinate and supervise the activities of outside vendors.
- Engage with stakeholders and external partners to design and manage short and long‑term projects.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable state and federal procurement laws and regulations while ensuring competitive pricing on procured services and materials.
- Maintain an inventory of maintenance and grounds supplies and equipment so that needed replacements can be ordered efficiently and timely.
- Maintain a list of all maintenance and grounds contracts (i.e., trash removal) with expiration dates. Initiate renewal of contracts prior to expiration.
- Coordinate snow removal services and clear snow, ice, and debris from walkways, entrances, and driveways.
- Assist with management and maintenance of the Collaborative’s fleet of vehicles, including gas, maintenance and inspections.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining regular communication with the Director of Finance and Operations to ensure issues are highlighted on a timely basis and work priorities/plans are developed and reviewed.
- Assist with emergency preparedness drills (fire, lockdown, etc.).
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director or Director of Finance and Operations.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to walk and stand on tile flooring for up to 1‑2 miles per day, climb stairs and ladders while carrying supplies, lift up to 60 pounds, bend and twist regularly at the waist, knees and neck. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls. Some work performed in a typical office environment requiring minimal to light physical effort.
