The West Suburban YMCA is seeking an experienced part-time Maintenance Custodian to support our facilities and community. This role focuses on maintenance, cleaning, and safety for our YMCA and camp properties.
Pay
: $15.00‑$20.00 per hour, depending on experience, certifications, and education.
Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Director, the Maintenance Custodian will assist with day‑to‑day maintenance and housekeeping of the YMCA and its facilities. Duties include cleaning, sanitizing, and routine upkeep of assigned areas and equipment. The custodian may also perform window washing, meeting set‑up, pool cleaning, snow removal, groundskeeping, and other related responsibilities.
Essential Functions- Complete daily cleaning tasks as outlined in the schedule, maintaining a clean and attractive environment.
- Perform wet and dry mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, and seasonal lawn care and snow removal.
- Work varied hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during severe weather.
- Support the organization’s DEIB commitments by modeling equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Operate motorized and non‑motorized equipment as required.
- Record and report needed repairs; follow repair instructions.
- Secure the YMCA building and property during shifts and report incidents or hazards.
- Replace supplies such as soap and paper towels.
- Set up furniture for events and assist maintenance on Camp Chickami and CFAD.
- Assist with pool maintenance and perform other duties as assigned.
- Preferably six months or more of related experience.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
- Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
- Basic understanding of equipment upkeep and care.
- Commitment to supporting equity-centered work and all DEIB efforts.
- Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe use.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Certifications:
CPR/AED and First Aid required within 30 days of hire. - Excellent interpersonal and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups from all social and economic backgrounds.
- Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
- Ability to work on ladders and platforms up to 30 feet.
- Able to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemicals, solvents, and cleaners in various forms.
- Open to working in conditions that create dirt and dust.
- Performing tasks such as semi‑to‑full reach, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, carrying, and working in confined spaces.
