POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lead Maintenance Technician is a senior, hands-on member of the Facilities Department responsible for performing skilled maintenance, repair, preventive maintenance, and construction work throughout Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School facilities.

In addition to performing skilled maintenance work, the Lead Maintenance Technician assists the Director of Facilities with supervising and coordinating the day-to-day work of the maintenance team, maintaining the department work schedule, prioritizing assignments, and helping ensure maintenance requests and projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

This is a working lead position. The Lead Maintenance Technician provides daily work direction and technical support but does not conduct employee performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, or other formal personnel reviews.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends as needed for emergencies, projects, and special events.

Employees are expected to report during school vacations unless otherwise directed by the Director of Facilities.

Facilities employees may be required to report during snow days, inclement weather, or other school closures to support snow removal, emergency response, and building operations.

Emergency or on-call availability may be required based on operational needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES:
  • Perform skilled preventive and corrective maintenance throughout school buildings and grounds.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain building systems and equipment, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, windows, roofing, and related systems within the scope of the position.
  • Perform carpentry, painting, drywall, hardware, flooring, and other general building repairs.
  • Conduct minor renovation and construction work that does not require a licensed tradesperson or construction license.
  • Perform routine inspections of buildings, grounds, equipment, and building systems to identify maintenance and safety needs.
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance situations and take appropriate steps to protect students, staff, property, and building operations.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, maintenance equipment, and other machinery safely and professionally.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal, landscaping, grounds maintenance, and other seasonal responsibilities.
  • Support setup and breakdown for school activities and special events as needed.
Lead and Coordination Responsibilities
  • Serve as a working lead and technical resource for maintenance staff.
  • Assist the Director of Facilities with supervising and coordinating the day-to-day work of the maintenance team.
  • Assist with organizing daily assignments, establishing priorities, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with department needs and established timelines.
  • Help maintain the department's daily and weekly maintenance schedule, including work orders, preventive maintenance, projects, special events, and other operational needs.
  • Monitor progress on assigned work and communicate delays, unresolved issues, or additional resource needs to the Director of Facilities.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and technical direction to maintenance staff regarding assigned work, proper repair methods, safety procedures, and use of equipment.
  • Assist with coordinating coverage and adjusting daily assignments when priorities or facility needs change.
  • Support the onboarding and training of maintenance staff.
  • Promote teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and high-quality workmanship throughout the Facilities Department.
  • This position assists with day-to-day supervision and work coordination but does not conduct employee performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, or other formal personnel reviews.
Work Orders, Projects, and Vendors
  • Respond promptly to assigned work orders and maintenance requests through the school's work order management system.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, materials used, outstanding repairs, and facility conditions.
