Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree, at minimum, with at least a minor in physical education. Appropriate licensure as required by Illinois law with an endorsement in physical education, required. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in physical education instruction including fitness testing. Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to incorporate Illinois professional teaching standards into classroom instruction. An interest and/or experience in the development of student-focused instructional environments.

A strong commitment to professional excellence. The ability to work collaboratively with others to optimize student achievement. A willingness to participate in staff development opportunities.

Job Description:

Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports. Analyzes, demonstrates and explains basic skills and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms and fundamentals of body movement. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible and nurtures a feeling of self respect and self worth within each child.

Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils. Recommends the purchase of equipment and maintains inventory and storage of school property. Evaluates each pupil's growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports.
