Early Childhood Teacher

Worthwoods Elementary reports to the principal and director of student services. Qualifications include a bachelor's degree in early childhood education with coursework in the instruction of at-risk students, appropriate licensure as required by Illinois law with endorsement in early childhood education, knowledge of Illinois professional teaching standards, demonstrated knowledge of best practices in the instruction of young at-risk students, the ability to work collaboratively with others to optimize student achievement, a willingness to participate in staff development and professional learning opportunities, and a strong commitment to professional excellence.

Start date is August 2026.

Duties and responsibilities include understanding central concepts, methods of inquiry, and structures of disciplines, evaluating teaching resources and curriculum materials, facilitating learning experiences that make connections to other content areas, analyzing individual and group performance to design instruction, introducing concepts and principles at different levels of complexity, facilitating a learning community in which individual differences are respected, using a wide range of instructional strategies and technologies to meet diverse student needs, understanding the Illinois learning standards, curriculum development, content, learning theory, and student development, establishing expectations for students' learning, understanding principles of and strategies for effective classroom management, maintaining proper classroom decorum, maximizing the amount of class time spent in learning, using strategies to create a smoothly functioning learning community, using multiple teaching and learning strategies to engage students in active learning opportunities, modeling accurate, effective communication, understanding assessment as a means of evaluating how students learn, maintaining useful and accurate records of students' work and performance, initiating collaboration with others, developing relationships with parents and guardians, coordinating and collaborating in directing the activities of a classroom paraprofessional, acting as a reflective practitioner, participating in professional dialogue and continuous learning, understanding education as a profession, following codes of professional conduct, demonstrating positive regard for individual students and their families, promoting and maintaining a high level of integrity in the practice of the profession, practicing effective literacy techniques, maintaining and developing knowledge and skills in learning technologies, using computers and other learning technologies to support problem-solving, data collection, information management communications, presentations, and decision-making, using productivity tools for word processing, database management, and spreadsheet applications, planning and delivering instructional units that integrate a variety of software, applications, and learning tools, practicing socially responsible, ethical, and legal use of technology, information, and software resources, maintaining accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district procedures, maintaining a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities, attending staff meetings, and observing and following all district policies and procedures.
