General Description
This full-time night custodian position plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for employees and the public in State facilities. Working collaboratively with team members, the role is responsible for performing general cleaning duties across a variety of areas and surfaces to ensure facilities are well-maintained and presentable.
Essential Functions- Responsible for general cleaning, vacuuming floors and furniture, emptying trash and recycling containers, dusting, mopping, sanitizing, washing windows and mirrors, and cleaning/stocking restrooms, bathrooms, and offices.
- Learn where custodial supplies are kept and replenish supplies when needed.
- Observe and identify areas that need repair and submit information to the supervisor.
- Comply with state and federal policies such as OSHA and EPA.
- Operate and maintain equipment, including hand and shop tools.
- Move furniture and set up conference rooms for meetings and events.
- Perform designated watchman rounds to ensure security and safety, check building systems for proper function, and update security logs.
- Perform chemical renovations.
- Monitor fire protection systems.
Education
:
High School Diploma.
Experience
: 0–6 months of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) or, alternatively, 1–2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds).
Preference
:
Applicants with prior experience working with cleaning materials and chemicals will be given preference.
- Knowledge of materials, supplies, equipment, and methods of more technical cleaning and maintenance.
- Knowledge of power and manual tools.
- Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, bio-hazards, and elements.
- Must be able to drive vehicles and operate large, complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- FLSA:
Non‑Exempt. - This is a full‑time, Monday‑Friday night‑time position with a shift differential.
- Employment is subject to a successful applicant passing a background check.
