Position Summary

The Building and Grounds Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, functional, and attractive environment throughout all facilities and grounds. This position performs preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and groundskeeping to ensure buildings, equipment, and outdoor areas remain in excellent condition while supporting the daily operations of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance

• Perform routine inspections of buildings, classrooms, offices, cottages, and common areas to identify maintenance needs.
• Complete repairs involving carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, drywall, flooring, doors, windows, locks, and general building systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance on facility equipment and mechanical systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair maintenance issues in a timely manner.
• Assemble, install, and repair furniture, fixtures, shelving, and equipment.
• Ensure all work complies with applicable safety standards and building codes.

Grounds Maintenance

• Mow, trim, edge, and maintain lawns and landscaped areas.
• Prune trees, shrubs, and plants.
• Remove weeds and maintain flower beds and outdoor spaces.
• Perform snow removal and ice control on sidewalks, parking lots, entrances, and other designated areas.
• Maintain irrigation systems as assigned.
• Collect litter and keep campus grounds clean and presentable.

Safety and Compliance

• Conduct routine safety inspections of buildings and grounds.
• Identify and report hazards requiring immediate attention.
• Ensure emergency exits, fire extinguishers, lighting, and safety equipment remain accessible.
• Follow OSHA, Wyoming OSHA, DFS, and organizational safety regulations.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, inspection records, and work orders.

Equipment and Inventory

• Operate maintenance vehicles, lawn equipment, power tools, hand tools, and maintenance machinery safely.
• Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.
• Monitor inventory of maintenance supplies and notify supervisors when replenishment is needed.
• Assist with receiving and organizing maintenance materials.

Event and Operational Support

• Set up and tear down rooms for meetings, trainings, special events, and school activities.
• Assist with office moves and furniture relocation.
• Support facility improvement and renovation projects.

Other Duties

• Work collaboratively with administration and staff to prioritize maintenance requests.
• Maintain a professional appearance and positive working relationships.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of building maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction, or related experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building repair.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to successfully pass required background checks and a drug test.

Preferred Qualifications

• Trade certification or vocational training.
• Experience maintaining educational, healthcare, or residential facilities.
• Experience operating maintenance and landscaping equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of general building maintenance and repair techniques.
• Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple work orders and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to read manuals, work orders, and basic construction drawings.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Operate vehicles and powered equipment safely.
• Possess sufficient vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to perform maintenance tasks.

This position regularly works in classrooms, offices, residential cottages, maintenance shops, and outdoor environments. Duties may involve exposure to weather extremes, noise, dust, chemicals, machinery, and other conditions commonly associated with facility maintenance. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required.
